I don’t get shippers. One of the only obsessions I don’t get

Rooting for two characters to get together is pretty harmless but it gets really weird very quickly when it's about characters who are clearly not meant to have a romantic relationship. All the crazier when this turns into threats against the creators and actors. They always talk about the evil male gamers but I'd like to hear them explain the toxic shippers who mostly consist of women and gay men.

Somewhere along the way, on tumblr most likely, Annie Wilkes from Misery became an aspirational character.

I actually get it

it can be difficult to show proof of income and credit and whatever you need to officially rent a place, but hotels are no questions asked, and it's easy to slip into a pattern of "oh god, I owe them so much already...but I have nowhere else to go, maybe just one more day..."

especially if you've never been homeless before and you're attached to the idea of needing a bed to sleep in, not being willing to sacrifice that just yet (and fucking things up even further just to maintain that)

It's pretty depressing. Downward spiral with everyone being able to see the bottom. Homelessness is something I don't really wish on anyone and I imagine most people who are homeless never thought they would be.

What if she was doing another project or not good enough or declined or any number of other reasons? The director said they tried to find one but that there's "close to none openly trans actresses in Korea" and I'm inclined to believe him due to the anti-LGBT mess there. Ultimately, I thought he did the character justice, she ended up being the MVP of the season.

This whining about the actor playing the role is so dumb but that ban just managed to put a crown on it :D

Yeah, these folks are "fixing" what's wrong with the show. Like back in the day, we all wanted Mulder and Scully or Stabler and Benson to get together. But these retards nowadays are afraid it's not gonna happen so they make their porno encounters asap, regardless if they're kids or not.

not to minimize the situation and the struggle but I have a hard time imagining living a life such that none of your friends and family would be willing to help you out

Why not find a room in an apartment with roommates?

My lifestyle isn't really roommate friendly. I have sleep issues and stay up at night and I also prefer to be by myself as I don't feel comfortable living with someone else

I also feel your frustration. My local bookstore always has her books on display, sometimes with handwritten cards full of praise for her drivel. On saturday I wanted to buy a book about queer kids in my country, I flipped through it, saw a quote from a teen talking about the disappointment that our regional government had limited treatments for trans kids. Then at the checkout queue there was someone beside me holding one of these "I am canceled!"-book from some old, washed-up celebrity & the woman in front of me had a Harry Potter book. The cashier was so smarmy with her, gave her a coupon and a free bookmark. At first I just wanted to lay the book with the cover facing down, so nobody would see it but then suddenly my frustration welled up, I turned the book around so she'd see the cover with an enby teen from the correct side and tossed it scornfully onto the desk. Her joy instantly drained from her...
I felt like bad for it afterwards, because I always try to be respectful to service workers, especially if they have to work over the holidays but in the spur of the moment I just couldn't keep it in anymore...

It was wrong then (1995), it's wrong now, because it's based on a naive mythological fantasy about the past. (She's got a lot of these.) And if Putnam didn't make up his "facts" about Italy, he definitely massaged them into fitting his narrative.

Also, Putnam's thesis, like Nepenthe's, is entirely backwards. The decline of civic engagement, as they're defining it, obviously matches the increase of the state which eliminated that sphere and substituted itself. Something which both Putnam and Nepenthe argue for as the goal. The inability of citizens to participate and have a say is intentional, not a mistake. They're just upset that it doesn't result in utopia and they have to blame something other than the foreseeable result of their intentions.

That's aside from the fact that the Democratic Party is an endless sea of organizations, Nepenthe just refuses to find out about any of them let alone participate in them. That would not only require her to do something but to also listen to and compromise with others. Something she has publicly declared to be unacceptable.

Lastly, people in the period she's feeling wistful about were objectively poorer and worked more while having far fewer state-provided welfare/redistribution services. Nepenthe uses the fact that she (and everyone else) is wealthier, has more public services and has more free time than them as the reason she (and supposedly everyone else) can't do what they did. Nepenthe likes to brag about her worthless art degree, comparatively none of those people (especially women and Blacks) went to college.

Can it also be that her focus on ideological purity and niche racial political frameworks that are antagonistic and abrasive makes it hard to build trust or form meaningful connections with everyday working-class individuals or to have any meaningful connections at all with anyone?  Nepenthe tries her hardest to make sure she may not relate to anyone through her personality, let alone the priority of radical positions like tearing down the economic system. Without relatable messaging or tangible solutions, maybe it's impossible to organize ya dummy?  Criticizing the lack of grassroots engagement should start with a critique of yourself and why things aren't working for what you do, not starting by thumbing your nose at other people not doin the organizing.

I don't know. I always found that sort of thing interesting and enlightening to read as some things end up being truer than I thought they would be. And, then it's always a fun laugh to read about the things that end up wrong too. Every book has a different interpretation of how zodiac signs react, but there are a few parts and pieces that stay consistent across different writers.

I grew up with a planetarium in my high school, so it was pretty easy to get into zodiac signs and whatnot when they would do presentations on the constellations.
