I'm not gonna get into screenshots I haven't seen, or any accusations/lies I do not endorse, though it's kind of weird for some to assume the same user who made comments off-site would be coming in here posting shit with an alt (at least that sounds like what happened), but whatever... I wanted to comment on this a bit.

I wasn't gonna bring it up, but since this thing happened, I will. But an example of why trying to engage with this site's moderation is a waste of time is in the mod message around the Kingdom Come preview thread, particularly this part:

I don't particularly care if the game is banned or not, though based on previous bans I'd say it more than qualifies. But whatever... The question is, how exactly does this site's administration squares trying to keep this place welcoming and safe and whatever platitudes it claims to strive for, when it's not gonna take into account what the community has to say? It was a baffling way to express the policy, but also predictably revealing.
Moreover, like a lot of moderation decisions on this site, half the time it ends up being another instance of heavy-handed and not very well thought out decisions that get walked back, yet still carry consequences and antagonize users anyway.

And once again, part of why most of the community discussion here and elsewhere is just venting now instead of anything actually productive, is that posting in this thread you risk catching a perma threadban, especially if you bring up a ban decision. And I say risk because it's not really consistent. When 90% of how moderation is done is through bans, threadbanning someone from this thread for criticizing mod decisions around a ban is simply bizarre. We've already talked ad nauseum how trying to deal with stuff through the ticket system was futile for a lot of people.

Frustrations have been mounting, and quite frankly the insistence on ignoring it by the staff at this point can't be interpreted in any way but it being done out of spite.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Yeah, moderating a site like this is tough, draining, and largely thankless. But when it becomes a task that one absolutely hates, and it bleeds into how many communities leave, they should quit.

With respect, this is plainly not true, at least not for everyone. The GM of this site has made various incendiary remarks to others that would inarguably be ban-worthy for any regular user, including but not limited to a sexually-worded blow-up at a female admin (telling her to "eat him") over a disagreement, which was profoundly inappropriate -- and he was allowed to cover the situation up by deleting it and going on with his day posting normally. Where is the fairness or respect in that situation? He got preferential treatment for extreme disrespect.

Additionally, a great many communities -- especially minority communities, for whom this place should have been a safer haven -- have been driven off-site by staff policy and bans. And any "meta discussion" thread created by them to engender discussion of the site's staff or community shortcomings have been locked (typically in less than a minute -- faster than anything else is moderated). As recently as this week did this happen to a thread by a Palestinian member.

The staff's first priority appears to be the maintaining of the status quo at all costs, no matter how much of the longstanding community and its most vulnerable sub-communities and members are discarded or alienated in the process. Continually placing all blame for the ever-toxifying community-staff relations on the community and throwing out scattershot bans while ignoring the fundamental top-down issues causing people's mounting frustrations doesn't help anything.

Obviously there's always going to be bad actors who try to take advantage of any situation, but you cannot paint with so wide a brush because some random member made a gross accusation (I didn't even see this, so can't comment further).

My two cents.

That might as well be the official policy at this point.

Absolutely people could pretend to be another user to stir shit up. It's typically why I am personally not swayed by screen shots and prefer actual links so more analysis of the situation can take place.
