I'm sort of vibing with that Wicked review. "The social and sexual grooming that Disneyfied culture has indulged" is a bar, as the kids say. 

There's a very real neverland effect going on with the increased catering to adults via childish things, and a reactive (maybe incidental?) adultification of those same childish things. It's certainly not limited to Disney, and it isn't (always) intentionally sexual, but like...you got armies of childless adults commentating Bluey, or complaining about balance adjustments in the latest Pokemon game, etc. etc. etc.

Why did people stop using chainmail?
Because it's obsolete and useless in modern society. Chainmail will not stop a bullet, it's difficult to manufacture properly and it's expensive compared to modern armor, there's absolutely no reason for it to have remained in use.
