I wonder on what basis they can say anyone was faking?

who cares if someone has searchable history under other identities, maybe they're trying to be stealth about it and weren't ready to come out until this conference?

like do they understand how offensive that is, to imply that a trans person might be faking it to take advantage of certain benefits?

ACAB but also conferences should do deep investigations of anyone who wishes to attend so they pre-emptively be placed on a "no attend" list for their innate characteristics.

https://www.sciencenews.org/article/astronomers-renaming-magellanic-clouds wrote:A group of astronomers is coalescing around an idea to rename two neighbors of the Milky Way, the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.

Named after explorer Ferdinand Magellan, the satellite galaxies are visible with the naked eye from the Southern Hemisphere. But Magellan’s name is not fitting, astronomer Mia de los Reyes and colleagues argue. The leader of the first expedition to successfully circle the globe, Magellan enslaved and killed Indigenous people encountered on the voyage, which set out from Spain in 1519 (SN: 9/17/19).

“Because we’re naming things in the night sky, which belongs to everyone, we think that it’s important to have names that reflect all of humanity,” says de los Reyes, of Amherst College in Massachusetts. She calls for the name change in an opinion piece published September 12 in Physics. Magellan’s voyage helped pave the way for Spanish colonialism in South America, Guam and the Philippines, says de los Reyes, who is Filipino American. “Many people see Magellan as a villain in the Philippines.”
Quote:The clouds were noted by a member of his expedition, but they were already well-known to many cultures in the Southern Hemisphere, and even to previous European explorers. “It doesn’t make sense to have them named after any one person, let alone a person who never actually studied them,” says astronomer Gurtina Besla of the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Quote:A woman, who appeared drunk, was caught hurling xenophobic comments at a group of German tourists on a New York train.

In shocking footage, taken by another passenger and posted to social media this week, the 'Karen' is seen towering over a group of tourists as they chat amongst themselves in their seats.

'Are you German?' the blonde woman asks before aggressively adding, 'what did you say, tell me what you said.'

The woman, who has not been identified, becomes increasingly aggressive before shouting 'lets not let immigrants take up our country...how about you get the f**k out of our country.'

The woman, wearing jeans and a light green strappy top who social media users have dubbed a 'Karen', is seen being soothed by her concerned boyfriend.

'Brie, don't do this. You could be arrested' he pleads, as he takes her by the arm and tries to convince his partner that the group of men were 'having a private conversation' and not trying to start a conflict.

'I love you, but get off me' the increasingly upset woman tells her boyfriend as she continues to berate the tourists.

'Stop this right now, go sit down or I'm never going to talk to you again' he threatens.

The tourists appeared to take the incident in good humor, with only one getting out of their seat, appearing visibly annoyed before calmly sitting back down moments later.

It's unclear what led to the confrontation or what comments were made to the blonde woman.

After the woman is back in her seat the boyfriend tells her, 'I'm an immigrant too, you know that right.'

'That interaction gives me second hand embarrassment for her soon ex-boyfriend' one social media user wrote on Reddit.

'She’s drunk out of her skull and her nasty true character is now out there for all to see' another said.

Another viewer tried to find the lighter side writing: 'It's a rather beautiful cultural exchange. German dudes got Insane American Karen On A Train. She got Germans who found her bizarrely hilarious.'

Friend of mine saw the new Exorcist and confirmed she does indeed say this in the film. Just an insane writing decision that retcons one of the most iconic films of all time. She doesn't observe the exorcism because she doesn't want to, and is not a priest. That's literally what happens lol. We've all seen that movie, I'm blown away anyone could think they could get away with such nonsense.

And of course it's written by two guys. I guess the positive takeaway is that the critics hate the movie as well

https://online.ucpress.edu/gastronomica/article-abstract/16/4/66/44994/Live-and-Active-Cultures-Gender-Ethnicity-and wrote:Using a transnational and comparative cultural studies approach, this essay investigates how yogurt, perceived as a strange and foreign food in the early to mid-twentieth-century United States, became localized through intersectional processes of feminization and de-exoticization. In the transition from the 1970s to the 1980s, the dairy industry adopted a postfeminist ethos, which co-opted the hippie and feminist self-care movements that had made yogurt a staple health food outside the purview of the medical-industrial complex and on the margins of the market economy. Increasingly, yogurt was marketed to the prototypical (white middle class) dieting female, expected to discipline her body by consuming pre-proportioned approximations of dessert. The rising popularity of “Greek yogurt” in the early twenty-first century has modified this cultural neutralization by foregrounding a nonthreatening “white” ethnicity—while furthering the feminization of yogurt consumption and obscuring connections to the food cultures of the Middle East.
