On the Rogan podcast he mentioned the R/NC17 releases are in summer. If I’m gonna give it a chance, I’ll wait for that. First movie was awkward cutting around any graphic content. Plenty of other issues, for sure. But like, seeing heads pop and an octopus alien sex scene would help a little.
That’s actually the other reason Argyle felt so off. Kingsman type action sanitized for PG-13. Cutting any impact or reaction to hits. Empty. Also holding off on Napoleon until Ridley’s 4 hour cut.

I watched the first part this weekend.
The universe he has created is pretty cool if a bit a by the numbers Empire/Rebels type of thing. Overall though I enjoyed it even with the awkward cuts. CG was certainly better than your usual Disney garbage. Zack Snyders Star Wars is a fun watch. It does have this 'good enough for Netflix' vibe going on that they can't seem to shake though.

If you want to see a more realistic prison movie check out Animal Factory. Its free on youtube.
I normally don't watch prison movies because they don't come close to what it's like and I'll pick it apart until everyone tells me to shut up. I saw it was directed by Steve Buscemi and starring Willem Dafoe, so I gave it a shot. After watching it I had to look up the writer. Sure enough it was written by ex-con and actor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bunker If that doesn't sell you, it also has a trans Mickey Rourke and Tom Arnold as a rapist. Have I sold you yet?

Watched the Road House remake/reboot, it wasn't bad surprisingly was it as good as the original no of course not but it didn't feel like a complete waste of time like these thing always turn out, if you got nothing to do on a lazy Sunday give it a watch.

Unironically tried to watch Madame Web.
Plenty of low rated movies I’ve watched and enjoyed. Or met them on their own terms. Also don’t like to dwell too much on stuff I don’t like. That said, it’s kind of an insane movie. Reading up a bit, they changed it a lot in post production. Almost every line from Tahar Rahim was badly dubbed. Seems his character’s goal was to prevent Peter Parker’s birth. Peter Parker’s pregnant mom and Uncle Ben are still characters in it. The movie would’ve been Terminator vs Nicholas Cage in Next? Anyway, at one point Madame Web meets with Peruvian spider people who teach her to clone herself

Kids dragged me to watch Ghostbusters.
It's just...not terrible in any sense, just not very good. It's like someone was making a cake and forgot to put sugar in.

Road House 2024
The opening fight with the pudgy tattoo guy just looked like Set the tone for how off some of the action could look. Read they used CGI body doubles to show hits connecting, without having to hide them, which let them go with dynamic camera movements. I don’t think it really worked. Also, I think the Irish guy was constantly standing on an apple crate. In far shots he looks about 5’2” but close up he’s eye to eye with 6ft actors.

Just watched Last Goal Wins.
Wow, they really fucked over a bunch of people in this made up garbage. I know they need to change facts for dramatic effect, but turning the whole thing into a trans triumph was the icing on the shite cake. If you have seen the excellent documentary, then you know the real thing was funny, heartfelt and fun and there was no need to change much for pure dramatics.

That actually looks good. If they can keep the grimy feel of the first one I am all in
That Joker trailer led me to this:
A two-part Kevin Costner western? Yes fucking please! It also reminded me that this is coming soon too. Viggo!!! Then I found this: Kiwi western!!!!

Which also reminded me that this is out there without any legitimate way to watch in Australia.

Not a musical guy but it looks like it might at least be better than the first one. I still don't grasp changing Harley to an inmate. Just because there's been so many awful explanations of how Harley could make sense it doesn't seem like reason to drop what's unique about her.

Nothing about the first movie really lines up with Batman “lore” as it is. Spoilers for the first Joker, there’s the whole dreamy unreliable narrator part of it. If that follows here, there’s the idea of whose narrative they’re telling. Aspects of the trailer read like Arthur isn’t the Joker people think he is. That’s who Harley is into and these are her fantasies. She’s goading him into being that guy. But he’s a sad dude in an asylum, and unfortunately for her, having a clown girlfriend makes him happy?
First movie had parts here and there from Batman comics to tell its own thing. Knowing Todd Phillips already borrowed big moments from Dark Knight Returns, maybe Joker being in this catatonic state is pulling from there again. The movie ends with Joker in his late 40s fighting a 14-year-old Bruce Wayne.

Mr. Harrigan's Phone on Netflix is the most Stephen King feeling adaptation of his work since Stand By Me. Loved it.

Dune 2
With adaptation, there’s always that balance of accepting it on its own terms while being pedantic about what’s changed. It’s great. Almost all the changes made it less weird and palatable for general audiences. Really clever choices with Alia and such. There are parts where taking away that weirdness somewhat dilutes the story. It’s less weird than Part 1, surprisingly. And going forward, I mean, the series doesn’t slow down. But yeah, it’s great. A little rushed. Changes with Chani felt like a modern concession. I don’t think Timothy Chalamet can grow facial hair.

I've been holding off reading Dune because I didn't want to fall into the trap of comparing. Glad I did.
