Shoot was banned for the accelerationist, "burn it all down" aspect of his post. Had he left that part out, then he could have easily avoided a ban in its entirety.

The entire reason that we ban accelerationist comments is because the belief itself advocates for incredible harm to come to people in the misguided belief that it will cause some sort of "revolution" to happen. As such, we've been banning accelerationist comments for what is essentially the entirety of resetera's existence.

While shoot's anger is understandable, that does not give him the right to wish for harm to come to other posters in the way he did. While he may not have even meant it, many did read his comments in that way.

Frankly, the ban is in-line with pretty much every other ban for these sorts of comments. Sadly, it's not the first time we've had to ban someone for these sorts of comments and we're afraid that it likely won't be the last.

Its been painfully slow but hope this means more and more students begin to get justice.

This is such a terrible situation and I would hate for the Muslim/Palestinian community to be yet another one that leaves this site. I've learned so much in observing these topics and the passion members pour into the updates and arguments revolving around this genocide, that it would be a great loss to lose them all.

I think extending mod duties to a member of that community may go a long way in knowing how to drive these kind of decisions in the long run, if there isn't already. With that ban and explanation, it's clear the current staff aren't equipped to handle what is an extremely sensitive ongoing situation and discussion.

What's wild is that almost every time, EVERY. TIME. the path of least drama and exodus is as simple as some reflection or admitting a fault in judgement and rescinding or reducing the ban severity.

We're all prone to making mistakes (hell my ban count can attest to that) just like any member here. Mods can't honestly believe they're immune from being human and screwing up every now and then right?

Nepenthe has been one of the best voices on this issue and everyone in the I/P thread and arab/muslim community heavily appreciates her insights, posts and energy she poured into the discussions and shutting down many bad faith posters, and even she got screamed at by the boss. Having an arab/muslim on the mod team would probably help but this problem comes from the top.

While it's fun that they're getting big angry at the staff and revving back up the pressure against B-dumbs, I don't like the fact they're doing it over a pretty stupid reason.

I find it extra hypocritical that they're mad over Shoot getting banned for saying "let it all burn down, i'm not voting, fuck white liberal tears", meanwhile most of them are A-OK with acting like overly sensitive stereotypical white liberal women over everything else.
