Pretty much this - Progress always comes in waves. One thing I appreciate about progressives is their willingness to be the "squeaky wheel." Yeah, using racist, sexist or ableist language is a problem and perpetuates the stereotypes about minorities that truly keep us from being a more equal and welcoming society. People need to know it's a problem or they won't change their ways! But as always, there's a backlash. We got progress during the Floyd protest, then right wing propaganda on crime, undocumented immigrants, and DEI fuels the pushback from society writ large. Give it a few years, it'll swing back once the election is in the rear view mirror (I hope).

There was no significant material progress for Black people and within policing after the protests beyond the offending officers going to jail. 🤷🏿‍♀️

The only progress we got was white people buying anti racist books for a summer, led by a white woman. We got some BLM Boulevards.

But mostly what we got is people rejecting the movement, rejecting things that would fix what caused the murder, we got highlights on the books that should be banned, a focus on banning equity work in every sector, and our supposed allies nowhere to be found all the while.

Shout outs to white fragility tho. Robin D'Angelo really wrote a book that says nothing to Black people but comforts white people in a way that assuage all the guilt.

No, they don't want a commune.  They want the wealth, abundance, and productivity of the place they're in, but for that wealth to be redistributed to them for no reason other than they exist.  Anything less is an indignity.  These are the "material gains" they talk about not getting, but never explicitly mention how it happens.  I keep waiting for specifics and explicit directions for their plan but they never say it out loud because it's so egregious.

But that only seemed to upset more people, both here, my friends group and elsewhere. After two incidents last night, I feel like I'm failing the community or hurting bi and lesbians and I don't know what to do, I feel like don't belong in the community. Is the term just bad? Should I go back to wlw? Should I just shut up and just call myself bisexual regardless of feel about the connotations.
