Personally, I always thought that sex change was a last resort type of thing for gender dysphoria. While we mock the concept of genocide, the basic idea of being a life saving/affirming type of procedure to far gone people is not exactly that objectionable to me, at least in a case by case basis. 

The problem is that the trans movement cannot agree with themselves if is a mental health condition or a sexual preference ala LGB, while being loud about it. So we get the fun stuff like hormones and sex change surgery for kids.

I feel like the best treatment would be to help people feel comfortable in the body they're born in, to avoid the risk that comes with hormones and surgery. But at the same time, we don't really discourage people from getting boob jobs or nose jobs do we? Where do we draw the line between "gender affirming" surgery and "cosmetic" surgery? Like, what's the difference between a woman getting a boob job and a man getting a boob job if it makes them feel better about themselves? Should we give women that want new boobs counseling to help them accept their old boobs instead?

Regarding people who 'identify' as trans, I feel that that seems to have increased around the time of COVID, with more and more social circles breaking off into little echo chambers where male loners and losers could feel part of a bigger group/cause AND 'have an answer' as to the reason why they were forever alone. 'Become a cute girl and you will be desired and become an object of lust/affection (ofc because they can't parse the difference between the two) and that desire/attraction being sent your way is all you really wanted. To be noticed.' - it really just feels like that for most of them. Like Melody Shreds, I bet my left testicle that if someone were strongly into them, but made it a point to "Knock off all this trans stuff.", they'd do it in a heartbeat to continue getting said person's attention/affection.

I often compare a lot of terminally-online 'trans' folk with someone in my real life, who is an actual fully under-the-radar trans person. They hate all the attention it's getting, don't want people to even notice they may have been previously born a male, and certainly doesn't associate with the LGBTQ+ crowd. Now in their early 30s, they have identified and presented as a woman since puberty, had surgery several years ago and without being told it, you wouldn't know they weren't a woman. That said, she puts a lot of effort into vocal masking and is Asian, so lets face it, they had an easier start than most 6foot2 balding white dudes.

Anyway, I've lost track of what I was trying to say, but the point is that there is a clear distinction between those who 'identify' as trans and those who feel body dysmorphic, have had corrective surgery and are provably living a far, far happier life because of it. I love my friend for who they are, not who they are pretending to be.

I suppose it comes down to insurance. Cosmetics are rarely covered. With gender affirming stuff, they argue it should be for some reason. Although, I think post mastectomy re-construction is covered, as well as breast reduction in Punky Brewster instances.

The trans movement lost the moment they decided it was a good idea to spam social media with their concern that not enough children were destroying their lives with puberty blockers, hormone therapy and sex reassignment procedures.

Yea, I think that's why things have become so ugly. Years ago, it was understood that some people were transgender and for whatever reason (mental, physical, who knows) they wanted to present as the opposite sex because they found it more comfortable or fulfilling. They weren't demanding people believe that were biologically the sex they wanted to present as or dictating that kids be educated on the concept, they just wanted to live their lives without being harassed. Of course, that isn't to say there wasn't stigma attached to being trans, but it was gradually getting better over time as people became more understanding just from exposure. Now all this bathroom stuff and transing the kids has set the movement back. Who knows how long it'll take for things to normalize now. 

Like, 10 years ago, I don't think anyone even cared if someone who noticeably passed as a woman used the ladies room. As soon as the trans lobby started saying "We're owed access to every single female space because of how we identify and if you try to stop us you're a bigot!!", it scared the hoes and now terfs want genital inspections before anyone can squat down to take a dump. They played themselves. 

what's worse is how it's probably partly responsible for the rise of the right wing

there's an observable growing gender gap where men are conservative and women are ultra leftist, with the whole line of "everyone should love and be loved, everyone should feel cared for and fulfilled and validated and that means letting them do whatever they want to achieve that"

but then letting people do whatever they want to feel validated is starting to erode female spaces, as men enter and dominate the conversation, force new phrases like uterus-havers, set all the international records for peak "female" performance, hang dong in the female locker room

which has made some women go oh shit wait am I REALLY in favor of letting anyone do whatever they want all the time? I'm just enabling new avenues for men to dominate us and silence us

just observably acting against their own self-interest, because the trans thing is inextricably tied to the party now

I can't say how many votes that must swing, but it sure seems like a non-zero amount

imagine if you could vote for all the left-leaning positions, AND also treat trans as a mental illness to be kept out of women's spaces, they'd be unstoppable

The question always comes down to whether or not there's some part of the brain that is gendered and creates the sense of identification with a specific gender; that is the factor for which 'being born in the wrong body' gets its legitimacy.  As far as I know, I *feel* male and know I'm male without external reminders, so I can see a trans person having those wires messed up.  If someone has a "female" brain but a male body, it's none of my business to tell them how they ought to live and present themselves as, nor is it my business to tell them they are wrong or mentally ill for doing it.  It's the external validation that is the issue - to most people, you are not 1:1 a female and will never be.  96.7% of cisgender heterosexual men and 98.2% of cisgender heterosexual women indicated they would not consider romantic or sexual relationships with transgender individuals, and telling them you have a brain with the gender they're attracted to isn't going to change that.  This is the hard reality.  I can't say that trying your darndest to live your life as the gender of your body you were born with is the right way to live your life - you have to figure that out for yourself, but as with all things, trying to find happiness and gratification by fighting against the world around you instead of finding equanimity within yourself, isn't going to go well.  You're probably not going to ever make the world see you as 1:1 the sex you want to present as.  And that's okay.  If you're at the point where you're suicidal because you can't legally go to the bathroom in the gender your brain is calibrated to, there is something off kilter with you, despite it being conventionally unfair.  An unfair world shouldn't destabilize you like that.  Plenty of things in the world are not fair.  There are ways to live and find happiness in the world without demanding others comply with what you feel.

I honestly believe that the reason liberals/leftists have treated trans rights as non-negotiable, even in the most ridiculous situations, is because the people on the other, using trans as political pawns, are such fucking assholes. Are you seriously gonna admit that De Santis, Trump or Musk are right about something? Of course not. They're dicks. You have to say the opposite, even if that doesn't make any sense.
