Hama has fallen to the rebels and the regime loyalists are surprisingly fleeing to Damascus (not their coastal Alawite strongholds).
It seems like they hope/expect some kind of deal or Assads capitulation before the rebels assault it.

If the rebels take Homs, they can cut off the Russian naval base at Tartous and drive them into the sea.

The Russians have bombed the bridge between Hama and Homs but there is little else they can do.

Rumor has it the first rebel units are already half way to Homs and could reach the city as soon as tonight and it could fall by tommorow.
It seems like they want to keep the pressure up before Assads army can dig in and the Russians can reinforce their base.

The Russian airforce continues to try and destroy the bridges.

Russian propaganda cope.

Assad should shoot his own underpaid officers to motivate the troops  lol

I can't imagine the regular soldiers are that enamored of their officers.

Russians have barely slowed them. Rebels are just 5 miles from Homs.

Shit is kicking off south of Damascus too. Rebels rising up taking over check points and they even got some armor in Daraa.....

I don't think Assad and Co. have time to put up any type of real defence now.

Well, the Ba'athist had a good run though

The Druze have sided with the rebels.

Not only are the Russians not helping it is unlikely they can evacuate their bases and airfields.

Reports that regime forces have left Homs for Damascus leaving it undefended against the rebel advance.

Just a sidenote, our PM just announced he's also heading to the Notre Dame reveal.

It starts to feel like some kind of 'James Bond' type event where the villain is trying to lure all world leaders to the same place.

All I know is that this Syrian situation is going to be interesting to watch because for all the positive words about inclusion and acceptance of all, Arabs are NEVER ones to be tolerant of anyone not subscribing to THEIR particular interpretation of God.

They'll be murdering each other within 5 years.

What is under reported is how inflation is killing these countries one by one. It's bad for us to pay 20% more for eggs or butter or whatever but for these folks prices have exploded even more and if their nest egg was Rubles, lol good luck. Assad didn't even have fuel for his tanks.

Also don't believe the stories that the best units of the Syrian army just magically melted away or refused to fight.
Everyone seems to have forgotten they fought alongside their Russian "allies" in Ukraine and are now fertilizer for Ukrainian farmers.

Unconfirmed reports that a brigade of ~1600 soldiers have defected from the Syrian army and are moving on Damascus to topple Assad.

Romania does what Biden stupidly refuses:
https://www.politico.eu/article/romania-court-cancels-presidential-election-runoff-tiktok-russian-influence-calin-georgescu/ wrote:Romania’s top constitutional court on Friday dramatically cancelled high-stakes presidential elections after security services warned Russia was mounting “aggressive” hybrid attacks against the Eastern European country.

The court decision plunged the strategically important EU and NATO member state into political chaos, inflaming divisions that opened up after a far-right outsider came from nowhere to win the first round in the presidential contest two weeks ago.

Ultranationalist Călin Georgescu benefited from a TikTok campaign that was similar to influence operations run by the Kremlin in Ukraine and Moldova, according to declassified Romanian intelligence documents. The files said Moscow was targeting Romania as an enemy state, using “aggressive hybrid action,” a view backed by the United States.

The second round runoff was due to be held on Sunday and voting had already begun in Romanian diaspora communities in other countries. The court canceled the process completely
Quote:Current Social Democrat Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who also stood as a presidential candidate, said the ruling was “the only fair solution” after the documents revealed the scale of the alleged interference operation. “The Romanians’ vote was blatantly distorted as a result of Russia’s intervention,” he said. “The presidential elections must be rerun.”

They're close to capturing Holms and have taken over the rural areas around Damascus and are now entering the suburbs of the city.

Quote:Rebel sources have told New Lines that there were several factors behind the regime’s implosion in Aleppo. One was the penetration of a high-level security meeting in Aleppo, during which an Iranian brigadier general and several Syrian officers were killed. The result was chaos in the city’s security operations and fear among officials in the city. Another was the use of sleeper cells inside Aleppo, which coordinated with the rebels, ensuring the further disruption of efforts to mobilize a garrison from an intact fallback position.

Quote:Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years. This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in. But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them. There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid. In any event, Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!

And he's not wrong. 10 years of fighting for nothing.

One of those policies isn't working out great right now and I'm pretty sure Africans won't be moving to Russia en masse any time soon.
