They're not prepared to be aware of, much less want to willingly fight against, the effects on attention spans that ALL social media- not just TikTok- but ALL social media was deliberately engineered to possess. This is not solved by banning a single platform. It is solved by heavy regulation of our Internet landscape, but methinks that some of the regulation that might actually be necessary is going to be fought against by my generation anyways. Like, I seriously think some level of anonymity has to eventually go away and that criminal prosecution must be allowed to be more easily leveled against users for things like harassment and bigotry . KiwiFarms shouldn't be a thing. I also think that all entertainment and algorithmic-based social media platforms should be heavily restricted to users under 18.

Apropos of nothing, anyone remember when a forum admin posted a dog whistley anti semitic post about the "collective nation of jews", then got explicitly anti-semitic posts from their personal social media exposed, and it was the people exposing that who got banned under the pretense they didn't kow-tow by handing over adminstrative access to an unrelated discord?

But that's none of my business...
