Almost everyone IRL that I ever spoke to about the game mentioned some of those viral cutscenes about the trans character in the game or some of the out-of-place dialogue, and how it kind of turned them off from playing the game, and they are all pretty left-leaning people. Maybe even just the general tone that went with some of the viral cutscenes (very preachy, very bright, when the predecessors were often more grim/dark).
Starts to make you wonder if some of that stuff did not blow back into the mainstream and consequently affected sales.

In my left-leaning circle, there's a discomfort with how the game handles it, but no one wants to look like an ally to the far right, so it's just not mentioned. So you have these horrible online discussions of someone whining about woke DEI nonsense fighting someone legitimately touched by this game, and a lot of people in the middle who are just not going to wade in.
JohnLennon wrote:This is exactly how I feel. It's sensitive which makes many left-leaning and people in the middle tend not to want to chime in, but I can also understand some concerns with how the game was presented.
That said, I am an ally and if this game has made people happy, that makes me happy. It just isn't really for me.
How is this the conclusion you end?
“Maybe the mainstream has less patience with forced diversity, that means we need to respect the weirdos that liked the game more because fuck everyone else, including my own opinion. I’m an ally.”
