To be fair, the owner is a bit of a loon; a mutual friend suggested to her that I could help with running certain parts of her business online, but she apparently only wants female staff too, regardless of their position, be they remote-working or otherwise.

It's easy to imagine there is a self-preservation aspect to that. 

I can already envision the breathless callouts: "known transphobe who created vagina-haver only gym is discovered to have bepenised staff, despite saying that she thinks phalli can cause women to kill!"
