Layoffs after release is normal because they staff up to release. Also you don't do layoffs as you're coming towards release that will just set the release back. The staff you need after release is different from before. Tons of people leave after things finally release too. Their other favorite industries are even more like this, film and TV productions cease to even exist after they finish production.

I have no clue why they think this is different "nowadays" all the time. The industry has always been like this. Obviously turnover is lower when the entire studio is five dudes and publisher is a handful of more dudes. Oh, and they're putting out one or more games a year rather than one every five years.

They really think the games industry somehow should exist to provide jobs for life to worthless losers.
