Biggest issue is the US had genuine connections to Europe that no longer exist. Through relationships between soldiers and European girls, jewish families that migrated to the US and closely working together to rebuild Europe and keep it safe from communism during the Cold War.
WW2 is now 4 or 5 generations behind us. Guys like Pete and JD just have 0 connection to that shared history. The latino, African, indian and asian Americans even less and a majority of muslims doesn't even believe the Holocaust was real.
