On my last flight I watched a Detective Conan movie and there’s a twist at the end to rejigger decades of history between Shinichi/Conan and Kaito Kid. The characters fit that rival mold and it was a popular “ship” among those types. Anyway, the twist ruined it for a lot of them and there was a lot written about how angry they were and wanted it retconned.
