My wife and I agreed it's a very valid point. I'll admit, I'm weak, I'll still buy a new Switch because, well, it's Nintendo and I'll be lucky to live long enough to buy a new Day One Nintendo console more than 3-4 more times in my life.
But everything else? I'll go without.
We just cancelled two trips we had planned for this summer with our family.
We're cutting our eating-out-restaurant budget by like 90% - likely from once a week to a few times this year.
I was gonna buy my wife a new car this year; nah, I just paid some local dude $500 to give her current car a killer detail.
I have bought the new iPhone every year for more than a decade. I'll skip this year, I think.
I was gonna buy a new Razer Blade laptop; I'm gonna pass.
I was gonna sell some of my camera gear and pick up the new GFX100RF... nah. I'll survive with what I've got.
And I just cancelled all my TV subs but YT TV and Max, after cancelling like five others last year already.
We've been putting off a back patio refresh for years - I'm gonna keep putting it off.
I think me and my kids will be spending a lot more time at the parks and outdoors rather than the movies and the malls. And I'll be bringing sandwiches vs. buying fast food when we do.
Etc. etc.
I'm very, very fortunate that this isn't destroying me or my family (though it might as layoffs can hit anyone). Right now I could just "spend more." But naaaah... I'd rather not.
