You don't even need to go to the Arabs, the Ottomans and their predecessors practiced settler colonialism across Anatolia and the Balkans for over a thousand years that wasn't finished until a final series of genocides in the 1920s because the Turkish state never figured out how to incorporate non-Muslims on an equal basis. The Pontic Greek/Assyrian/Armenian genocides were the literal blueprints for Hitler.
Easily explained by systemic issues and/or bad luck imo.
