I don't think he's lying about canceling any official collaborations he might have had line up but if he's going to continue acting as a patsy and a marketing puppet (and justifying it with the supposed realities of being a fighting game content creator or community figurehead or whatever) then he might as well have said nothing and kept taking their money for all the difference it makes.
I'd ask "what's the point?" but the point is obvious: he saw the discussion in this thread and wanted to nip it in the bud before it got any bigger, and that bullshit worked because nobody's bothering to hold him accountable to any meaningful standard. He hasn't clipped or otherwise shared or restated his comments from that stream, and I would not be surprised if the majority of his regular watchers have no idea that he said anything at all, and that's by design--he doesn't want to take a stand, he doesn't want to bring awareness to something serious that he himself claims to have been unaware of until recently, he doesn't want to foster discussion about a serious issue or to bolster anyone else who might've been afraid to share their own discomfort, he just wanted to dead the conversation before it steamrolled into something he couldn't bury.
