What I hate about these modern sites other than the ridiculous ad walls is that it's always about "me me me me me".
Back when I was writing for a Nintendo fan site, our visitors were always the primary focus.
In the Wii and DS days most people cared about the Mario and Zelda stuff and not so much about third parties.
But instead of choosing the easy route to cover only the big names we got up at 5 AM to report on a Harvest Moon TGS reveal even if it was just for 1 or 2 visitors.
All the seeds we planted for Fire Emblem, Xenoblade and other 'niche' titles ultimately blossomed to big communities but those had to start somewhere.
Modern sites I feel are just rehashing the same shit. They're not offering new insights or adding anything to the conversation. They haven't contributed anything.
fuck me, this is savage
