I agree that first and foremost elections are won by parties and individuals and grand narratives are bullshit, but there is definitely a general consensus that "lefty bullshit"* is on the nose with the general public and has been for some time.
The Labor Party won our most recent federal election after losing a number of unlosable elections. They won because the centre right government continued to be at the mercy of the conservative Christian right and were a complete basket case (although not as bad as the Tories over there).
After a bit of a honeymoon period, the government is facing up to the reality that their pet projects in climate change, gender fuckery and fucking with industrial relations in favour of the unions that nobody joins are not exactly popular and shit is starting to sour. They're just lucky the opposition have decided literal Voldemort is their man.
If there's a grand narrative it's that people are moving back to the sensible centre, which means that if there's no sensible centre they will vote opposite to what is currently in power.
*I specifically used quotes there because what I really mean is the bullshit open borders immigration, trans terrorism and other garbage that has about as much in common with leftist political ideology as Nintex's left testicle.
