Communism is centralized planning, production and distribution. Individuals acting on their own don't get to choose if they get, make or give glasses or toothpaste or whatever else. (That's assuming the necessary materials for these things haven't already been planned away, which is why central planning always leads to shortages.)
You know what would make communism work better? Some sort of central intelligence that could understand demand and assign resources to satisfy that need quickly and efficiently.
Some sort of artificial intelligence...I wonder how all the online communists feel about AI?
The AI would realize how inefficient and destructive a centrally planned system would be for human incentives within seconds and scrap the whole thing.
