Kulturkampf
Why are they actively making them look worse than their face models when the men look basically like their real life counterpart.

It's like the complaint about that shit is in the culture war thread for a reason. Look at Spider-Man one Mary Jane vs the second game. The fuck happened. Then the devs say modeling faces is hard, which is obvious deflection because one game back she looked fine.

I don't give a fuck if you want to make an ugly character. I do give a shit when it's only done because of some culture war shit.

I'm not sure why developers have decided that black women characters should look like Amanda Waller and I'm not really a gamer, besides some niche PC arpgs. But I'm not sure why anyone gives a shit about this lol. Outside of the Waller thing, most female characters I see in TV ads just look like regular women? Not hot, not ugly, sometimes cute I guess. Honestly they remind me of Ripley or Sarah Conner: feminine yet tough chicks. Nobody thought that was a problem in the 80s or 90s.

why are we culturally allergic to attractive characters now?

it doesn't matter if ONE character is ugly, it matters when suddenly 90% of the mainstream ones are and you remember when it wasn't the case

this wasn't a problem in the 80s or 90s because a wide variety of people were in all sorts of media in those decades, now they're literally all hideous

What's the agenda though, that's what I want to know. Are you saying that women characters are made to look ugly because women employees are behind the scenes demanding that no titillation be added to videogames anymore? Or is it something else. Because a week ago I saw people claiming the new Perfect Dark character model was ugly and it looks fine/attractive.

We can certainly have a debate about how much this does or doesn't matter (some stuff is also definitely overblown, Aloy from Horizon for example isn't a total bombshell but also not as ugly as people say) but I find it wild to have a developer basically get shut down by his colleagues because his comments gave too much ammo to the other side or something.

I also wouldn't be surprised if white developers are somehow interested in making POC characters look more "ethnic" to pat themselves on the back

I’m not that invested in this particular culture battle, but I think that’s the point? Ripley, Sarah Conner, and those types were the exceptions. That’s what made them memorable. Where you see Sarah in T2, muscular and messy, that contrast with who she was in the first. She’s in a lot of ways a regular horror movie girl in The Terminator. So imagine if T2 Sarah was in The Terminator. And imagine if that’s what nearly all ladies in movies were like. It gets boring.

Even the guy in the tweet says it. They flatten everything into one blob with stick attributes. Black man? Give him side swept dreads. Butch lady? Half shaved comb over look.

I'm just assuming its the same retarded culture war bullshit thats fucking up most media I enjoy, in that people get social media brain worms and do stupid creative work ruining shit to "stick it to the chuds" in a shadow boxing match most people literally could not give a fuck about if it wasn't ruining so much shit.

"Oh, these fucking chuds I argue with online like sexy women, huh? I will make my next character look like an Oblivion NPC, fucking chuds, that will definitely teach them"

The agenda is to make everything as lame and gay as possible to make it the norm Trumps

They have powerpoint slides at GDC to explain exactly what is and what isn't 'appropriate' by the censors and what message you should push.
All these companies are basically forced/blackmailed to hire diversity and equality consultants who then fuck up their games.
If you don't sign up to the agenda, you won't get hired by the they/them HR departments because you don't fit into the culture.

If you manage to dodge the bullet, they'll send your script and designs to Sweet Baby Inc. for a $20 million edit, to make it lame and gay.

Lets face it, guys like John Romero and John Carmack wouldn't get hired by the Microsofts today.
Instead some coward that hates guns is hired to produce HALO.

hmm

Apologies for the sperging, but this sort of cowardice makes me rage. Here is someone with an (correct) opinion on how stupid some of this performative bullshit is, and instead of using his position as a developer and high ranking member on the oppression olympics scale to make good change, he capitulates like a little bitch to parasites who have nothing but contempt for games and gamers. True cult like behaviour.

Fuck western devs, fuck naughty dog and their sleep inducing walking simulators plaguing the industry (how the mighty have fallen since the crash days) and fuck playstation, I am glad they will be out of industry by the end of the decade, they deserve it wholeheartedly.

I don't care about that. what I care about is the cowardice and hypocrisy. so what if your opinion is controversial? stand up for yourself. fuck those idiots. never ever apologise to them, they are only acting in bad faith anyway. They will eat you alive and it will only embolden them further.

I can only guess it's about the Jamaican workshop?

Doesn't really seem offensive to me considering the tone of the rest of the game.
If anything the game actually felt like a celebration of multiculturalism. The world is diverse and filled with unique people fighting a soulless corporation

It's kind of weird how these disclaimers started popping up without seemingly anyone actually voicing grievances in the first place. Like the first instance of a disclaimer like this were old Warner Brothers cartoons which have a clearly documented history of racism. A workshop in a videogame playing Jamaican music doesn't really quite compare.
I guess it's still better than them actually censoring their old games.

Some of the chuds on Steam seem to be speculating it's related to https://beyondgoodandevil.fandom.com/wiki/Secundo

I like how often nobody knows what's actually offensive that these disclaimers are for and have to speculate.

Truly twitters main character.

Edit: Oh I heard about that "you're wrong about" podcast before. Sounds absolutely dreadful:

https://freddiedeboer.substack.com/p/the-good-white-man-roster wrote:The name of Hobbes's podcast is You're Wrong About, but of course what its fans really hear is “you're right about.” Like most podcasts, what You're Wrong About sells as its fundamental market proposition is reassurance to its listeners that they're already in superior possession of wisdom, virtue, and taste. It’s a numbingly repetitive program in which he and his endlessly-droning cohost pretend to confront some thorny issue… only to find it was never thorny at all! Would you believe that the Valerie-from-Human-Resources-approved limp-dick inoffensive straight-down-the-middle Vox.com narrative is always the right one? Believe it! I genuinely don’t know why they bother to record the show, other than that their audience needs to pass the time on their commute to being the Chief Diversity Officer at a factory farming conglomerate. Why go through the rigamarole of pretending to investigate if your investigations always conclude that heteronormativity did it? You’d think that they’d say “perhaps the woke position is not 100% correct this time” every 50 episodes or so. But no.

Michel Ancel left in 2020 in the sexual harassment shake-up of Ubisoft (mis)management and the new team leads left in 2023 after an investigations into labour law violations.

The game was weird from the start. People just want another Beyond good and evil and Michael Ancel was like "Nah, I'll make Star Citizen" and then the game got trapped in the same development hell

The first attempt was a parkour type game he made with another developer.

I can't quite remember who it was but there was a demo with Jade running on rooftops.
