There are also two other factors. Ugly people who don't want to be on screen finding an outlet, and people who have a vested interest in larping because they pretend to be a woman on games forums to find sex games with other losers.

When you split it down to the core there's very little difference in the online behaviour of the intersectional culture warriors and the chud force. It's just losers fighting a stupid apocalyptic battle through posting.

On not getting cancelled, years ago one of those anime girl streamers got into hot water for mentioning Taiwan? I don’t know where that falls under culture war. Famously you have John Cena begging Chinese audiences for forgiveness after mentioning Taiwan.

On many of these anime girls not being attractive in real life. That’s part of the appeal, I imagine. They actually seem to play video games? Less caking on make up and trying to build up a parasocial bond with an audience of lonely men. Well there’s some of that. The baby voice thing is grating. Especially on English. I’m of an era when the English dub of JRPGs and anime were people speaking normal English. Yes it could be stilted and bad. But they weren’t trying to emulate the cadence and pitch of the Japanese dub.

it's the same reason that making video games/media with furries or weird alien creatures instantly sidesteps all inclusivity issues: no worries about black/hispanic/asian representation, no worries about islamic representation, no one tends to care if there are no gay/trans-coded whatevers because only weirdo degenerates want to think about that in that context ("is the cute little fox thing wearing a scarf that engages in zero relationships gay?!?!")

What sets the the anime / Asian gaming stuff apart though is that there is no way for the woke advocates to get inside the creation process unless it's a 'global team'. They can't have a diversity officer or whatever 'police' the content or run to HR enough times to enact the 'necessary changes' to the protagonist like they can at Xbox, Ubisoft or Disney. 

They can do that only when the game is brought over to the west (very limited because otherwise it sinks the entire product) or developed to cater to the west. But a lot of stuff these days starts out as some niche Korean/Chinese thing and is then introduced to a wider market with very little changes with millions in online ads that bypass the 'traditional' gate keeping soy gaming press entirely.

Another dog whistle that has been uncovered is 'accessiblity'. 9 out of 10 times 'accessible' games are woke as hell or have very generic designs.
Finally the mainstream gaming press has a blind spot for this type of media. They often don't see it as 'real games' and report on stuff like Dustborn and Outlaws as 'good' and inaccessible bro-games like Warhammer as 'bad'. 



But they don't do much coverage on 'niche' games that according to Steam player counts often have 10x or 100x as many players as the latest corpo woke slop they tried to push. They mainly stick to policing the mainstream content but that's not what gamers are playing anymore.
