There's a weird tension on Era, started in GAF, where there are multiple threaded narratives that must be obeyed and adhered to at all times. A forced bubble, if you will.

I wish I could identify exactly when in GAF it started. I want to say 2012, when the first narrative that was constructed was "heterosexual behavior from men will no longer be tolerated and will always be construed as in-person harassment". If any threads so much as touched on a theme of heterosexual attraction, you would have no fewer than four mods coming in and shooting everyone, even if no images were being posted at all. This was also when a mod would lock a thread and "clean house", in their words.

Then it transitioned to "If you don't let people derail threads in support of our political or social causes you will get banned", leading to bad faith posters quickly realizing they could get anyone they wanted banned by construing literally anything in the framework of US politics or US culture wars. This one is still active today, but as you can all see, everyone just ignores the bait and posts in safe language to prevent being banned from their love of titties and other things.

It was an enormous and deadly forum poison, and even though I have experience as an admin, I doubt I'd be able to catch on to what was happening and clean house at the right moment. I am not surprised at all that Evilore got caught literally and figuratively with his pants down.

I don't think there's saving Era, but I don't think there's really a need. I think the forum is quite small, and the massive amount of energy and fun that used to exist on old forums is now all on Discord. Just like how IRC and bulletin boards used to exist in tandem. Era can stay irrelevant forever, but at least we can extract laughs from it for our amusement.
