It's been one of the hardest years of my life with lots of loss and mental hardship. At times, it was a fight not to throw in the towel. Seeing the US choose a felon over someone who maybe one or twice treated trans people as valid absolutely broke my heart and I wasn't sure I'd ever feel hopeful again.

But also, I end the year with a body I actually like for the first time ever. I adopted a kitten who I adore and who adores me and who has been the wind in my sails on so so many occasions. My marriage is stronger now than I ever thought it could be when I was weighing up coming out as trans last year. I am blessed to have a wife who is open to doing the hard work that it has taken.

The poor woman is trapped.

Speaking as someone who has argued with mods plenty of times over the years I can confidently say that you aren't going to get banned for just disagreeing with a mod as long as you are respectful and stay within the rules of the forum. The only times I've ever seen someone get banned for arguing with a mod it's because it was a sensitive topic and the person was arguing in favor of something that was wrong/messed up.

People do like it because it is development after all, but the contradictions are heightening and it's inherently unsustainable. Reckoning with that while also realizing what capitalist development must take from others to make your life more comfortable is the crux of the problem. When you see the opposite of the extravagance that is the depths of oppressive poverty and exploitation, then it is more difficult to enjoy the treats that capitalism provides.

That becomes more stark when your fundamental needs are put more and more out of reach. Once the "treats" start getting out of reach for more folks, then the whole ruse becomes untenable. So it's important to heighten the contradictions, acquire class consciousness and move forward before the inevitable fall into fascism.

The on the ground stuff the Dems do is irrelevant not just because social media exists.

It's because the strategy of total strangers doorknocking and sending spam texts and emails begging you for the little money you've got remaining after these exorbitant bills that Democrats are telling you are not actually high because, well, the economy faired better than Italy's so shut up about your struggle, is alienating and isolating, which lines up perfectly with the belief that Democrats are out of touch with average folks.

You don't get people invested in your cause by coming around every few years begging for handouts, while also in turn reneging on the principles of moral decency you claim to champion (Gaza was a historic fuck up). You get them invested with material outreach and a sense of belonging to a community or cause. You get them invested through organizing, which ironically conservatives haven't entirely abandoned. They will form a group to bust up a town hall or a school board in a heartbeat. Of course money correlates with the ability to do this in today's society, which Adam admits, but at the same time Black people have historically been one of the poorest American demographics and have pulled off amazing fears of organizational prowess and civil rights fights that wealthier groups have not matched, so the excuse runs a little thin.

However, it's because conservatives haven't abandoned this practice that liberals seem completely resistant to the idea of actually talking to people in their community. They have every excuse in the world for not wanting to show up and make a difference, whether it's just at a food pantry, an environmental clean-up crew, hell, a dog shelter. Something. Anything! They're too good for the work. After all, that's something that those other people do- the conservatives, the ethnic activists, the "fake revolutionaries."

But yet you wonder why even demographics that should be on your side don't actually like y'all. It's because y'all don't come across as legitimately interested in people's well being beyond what power they can afford you.

Regardless, the point Adam was making is that America has lost its sense of community and organization, of which he listed plenty of historical, political, and technological reasons for why that is, and why this method of civic engagement had better results than whatever we're doing now. Mindlessly going "but Twitter is filled with Nazis" misses the point and it's why this thread is just reactionary paff.
