I realize that. I live in an area with a lot of noise- loud talking, both live and recorded music, etc.- and I also had to desensitize to such behavior while working retail and medical. I don't mind noise, certainly not enough to fine people for making it, especially since such fines naturally hit minorities and the poor harder. In general, I also don't like to be in silence for too long. It feels weird and distressing, like the area is dead.

Phenomenal ethnographic work being done here. Just amazing stuff.

Romance, as genre of fiction, has been around almost as long as fiction itself. It is far and away the most successful genre right now in the world of books. It is something the majority of humans will be familiar with, either firsthand or through someone close to them. Love is one of the strongest emotions a human can feel.

So why do video games treat love and romance like a joke?

Go ahead, get your stupid joke reasons out. “Video game fans? Romance? Haha people who play games don’t know romance,” a dumbass whose opinion is best discarded would say.

Let me get some caveats out of the way. Yeah, the Japanese market has plenty of dating sims. I’m specifically talking about the western market. And no, I’m not asking for anything 18+/explicit, though content of that nature often goes hand in hand with romance.

I just wish there were more games available in the English language about love and romance that treated love/romance with the genuine sincerity they deserve. “Romance” could be a game genre just as it is a genre of book or movie. Plenty of non-romantic games have very shallow romance elements in them (I see you, Persona) but honestly love can be so complicated that there could be games about it by itself.

I dunno. Romance is a good genre. A great genre, even. More games should be about love and romance! And sincerely too. No more jokes. If video games want to be taken seriously as a grown-up storytelling medium, they’ve got to be able to tell romance stories without making it a joke.

I'm so sorry you couldn't get a 5090. I've been testing VR with mine, and Flight Sim '24 at Ultra settings, Godlike VD, and DLSS Balanced (transformer) is a night and day difference from the performance I was getting on my 4090.
