It seems like pretty much unanimously, everyone says the black truck who is merging is at fault.

Make it make sense. What the fuck? The black truck was already at speed of the flowing traffic, and the truck filming was way behind it. Then it just....keeps speeding up to crash into it?

The black truck had already picked up speed, was ahead of the traffic on the highway, and went to merge. Just look at the first frame of the video, it is several CAR LENGTHS ahead of the truck filming, at highway speed. Then the filming truck (which would have seen the black one way before we see it in the video) just willingly closes that gap and crashes into it.

What the fuck? How is everyone saying this is the black truck's fault?

Being a short onramp is a huge chunk of the problem here, inattentive dude in the black truck is the other. Looks like they picked their speed based on the semi in the right lane but didn't keep an eye on the lane they were merging into.

Reminder that the semi was NOT just going a constant speed.

At the beginning of the video the semi is accelerating, when it should already long be clear that the pickup is aiming for that gap. It's entirely plausible that the pickup was actually matching what the recording semi's speed was a few seconds earlier, and the earlier part of the recording was deliberately excluded.

Everyone saying it's 100% the pickup driver's fault is crazy. It's like there's some kind of "don't dare make me slow me ever" mind virus going around making people drive like absolute assholes. It's not 0% either of course. I'd even buy that it's over 50% if we give the semi the benefit of the doubt over what may have happened before the start of the video. But saying that the semi driver is 0% responsible is insane.

Everyone on the road has a responsibility to take reasonable measures to avoid collisions. Someone violating right-of-way doesn't make it okay to just stubbornly crash into them. Even if someone runs a red light in front of you, you still have some amount of responsibility to not deliberately make it worse.

The semi driver makes NO attempt to slow down, even with ample time to do so. I'm not saying he should slam on his brakes, but he didn't even take his foot off the gas. Given the choice to slow down slightly or cause an accident, he chose to cause an accident, and that's not okay.

Are we watching the same video? At the beginning the semi is going at a constant 77mph which is 2 miles over the speed limit. We don't see what it was doing before hand so unless you're omnipotent I suggest you actually watch the video. Regardless the semi should've slowed down, but it had no duty to do so which the guy in the black truck should've considered.

The person entering the highway is supposed to regulate their speed to enter safely, those on the highway are supposed to maintain speed. Constantly changing speed on the highway is a driving hazard. Slowing down is not necessarily safer, it depends on traffic conditions. On the highway, constant speed is the safest thing for everyone, the problem is that humans don't maintain constant speed.

Stopping in the onramp, if necessary, is incredibly safer than expecting drivers on the highway to stop for you.

We also don't see what's behind the semi. Semi drivers have the best available awareness on the road and maintain constant speed the most. It's not reasonable to assume he could have slowed down significantly versus properly regulating speed within the traffic. Even if the Navitron isn't working.
