Join our drop-in monthly meeting space for people who have caused harm and are engaged in taking ownership of our choices and behaviors and the impact they have. We want to stop the cycle of harm in our lives, and here we offer mutual support on our respective and ongoing paths of accountability.

These meetings are intended to offer mutual support, where folks are invited to listen to and share with each other around their lived experiences and what they’re striving towards.

Yes! We are still meeting every month! ReSpec started as a project of the Games Hotline, but is continuing to run even after the close of the Hotline. The group is now open to anyone who has caused harm, regardless of professional or personal background.

We’re here with the hope of restoring humanity and dignity to the experience of causing harm and living with it, while also centering the reality that we hurt people. We want to make things as right as we can and prevent further harm from happening again in the future.

Harm includes any action or behavior that has an adverse or damaging effect on others. Some examples that we’ve focused on in this space include

misuse of power, force, or intimidation
manipulation, gaslighting, or coercion
sexual assault and harassment (including unwanted advances, touching, and forced or coerced sexual acts)
perpetuating sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and other forms of oppression.

“Respec” is a term used in role playing games when you are given the chance to rebuild or re-determine your character’s skills and abilities, to rebalance the stats (or “specs”) that define them. When the priorities and play style you’d previously used are no longer working for you, taking the time to respec can offer the necessary changes to be able to re-engage with the game in a way better informed by your learned experiences.

Several people I spoke to noted that their studios had increased diversity, equity, and inclusion [DEI] efforts in prior years when funding was robust, resulting in improved hiring initiatives and greater diversity in junior roles at major studios. But when the time came for layoffs, the developers who benefited from those initiatives often lost their jobs. Former employees of Epic Games, 343 Industries, and Bungie all told me that their companies’ DEI groups had been hurt by layoffs, with key employee leaders losing their jobs and companies making little effort to fill the gaps. This has left marginalized developers trapped in an overcrowded job market with few opportunities to get back on their feet.

It all comes down to most remote workers not being very good or disciplined at their job.

Remote working for experienced developers works but new hires just have no clue what to do and no real examples to learn from and no ammount of Toobin while ZOOMin is going to fix that. Also during COVID a lot of government help and loans were based on the condition that companies wouldn't fire workers. Now that the dust has settled there is some catching up to do.

Been checked out of Star Wars for some time. There’s a new show or movie or something causing a stir for, really, hitting all sorts of topics. From the black guy in it having the side dreads. To mostly non-white women led. To being set during the prequels. To admitting there’s a gay agenda with it. To the creator being, uh, Harvey Weinstein’s personal assistant during his heyday. And somehow there’s a conspiracy that she’s his daughter. And searching for context shows this particular culture battle has been going on since 2020??

All that aside, the creator in question made Russian Doll. Good show. And Kogonada got roped in to direct some episodes. I’ll be watching it. Actually I’ll probably forget by the time it’s out.

There's even more. The creator also talked about how there was specifically a writer in the writers room who isn't star wars fan which I don't think is a terrible idea but naturally rubbed hardcore fans the wrong way. 
There's also the star of the series talking about how happy she was how women centered the show is, which seems a bit odd when we just had a trilogy starring Rey and shows like Ahsoka.
Going by the trailer it also looks like none of the important characters is a white dude so I imagine there'll be lots of angry dudes on one side and lots of shoulder padding on the other.

Andor showed that Star Wars is far more interesting when the Jedi are kept out of it. Besides, the force and the Jedi were completely ruined by the prequels so any exploration of them is immediately eyerolling for me.

I'm sure there is a culture war angle to this but it just looks boring as hell. 

Half the scenes are people walking in hallways. They talk stoic and ar-ti-cu-la-ted so it is easy to translate and dub.
It's called STAR WARS and there isn't a star ship in sight. The CG looks cheap.

But this is what we can expect from Disney and George Lucas put out a strong statement in support of Bob Iger as shareholder pressure mounts.
I'm not sure the alternative is much better, but it certainly would be entertaining to watch the hedgefund managers that want Disney to buy EA and become a 'Gaming Giant' to run it.

I just don't get Disney, it's like if Coca Cola sold you a bottle of coke but there is a 75% chance the bottle contains water with a bit of piss and if you complain about the taste they call you potty trained as an insult and piss themselves.

I just don't get Disney, it's like if Coca Cola sold you a bottle of coke but there is a 75% chance the bottle contains water with a bit of piss and if you complain about the taste they call you potty trained as an insult and piss themselves.

Its more like if McDonalds bought out Coke because of corporate synergy, but then handed product management over to people who think coke tastes fucking disgusting and find the entire concept of soda morally repugnant, so they just stop making regular coke completely in favour of the low calorie high fibre vitamin supplement they invented but couldn't get any investors for instead, and if anyone says the reason its selling like shit is because it tastes like piss they get accused of child abuse.
