That could be a *very* good question to put into people's heads to be fair. We don't all pursue bottom surgery for anyone other than *ourselves*. I know I didn't. I couldn't go on living in my old body. It had nothing to do with whether or not random people in society would misgender me.

If this is a jumping off point for a good discussion about all of this, that's at least a silver lining, but I'd really hope people listen to the reasons why this stuff upsets living breathing trans people over wanting to defend a TV show they like. Trust us, we watch stuff that has problematic representations of trans people in all the time. We may like those things *despite* that. We wouldn't really have much to watch if we didn't.

But the problematic aspects remain, and we're still dealing with a character that *may* indeed be surprisingly well written coming from a cis man, but that still falls short in some key ways. Casting being one of them.

At times it feels like with certain sensitive topics it isn't that you're not allowed to have a different opinion, but that you're not even allowed to say anything remotely disagreeable without being banned. The user in question was not disrespectful, and their theory was backed up by the creator of the show.

I'm definitely not of the mindset that we need to respect and tolerate all opinions under the guise of "freedom of speech" because it ultimately only enables bigots and transphobes, but the user in question was lumped in with the worst of the worst in the thread by just saying "that's not how casting works" and then talking positively about a trans character in a show.
