Xiaohongshu users tend to be well-educated middle class people living in the big metropolitan areas. i.e. people who most benefited from the economic development in the last 30 years. When xiaohongshu first started, it was known as a place where rich people post their expensive collections of Louis Vuittons or what not. Xiaohongshu had to put out a new community guideline against "demonstrating purchasing power exceeds that of an average person", effectively banning posting of images of luxury goods because of the negative media attention it was getting. So of course their experience of the Chinese society will be drastically different from the rest of the country.
