Twitter is discouraged informally but that's it, I'd say half are x and half are blue sky at this point.

It's still your choice. We know this isn't a democracy. But isn't it useful for you to see the strength of feeling? And isn't it nice for us to know we're all on the same page?

Honestly, no. Because what happens if you guys ask for something that's either impossible or so expensive to do that it might as well be? Or something that would screw over a number of marginalized voices in this community? Another of the reasons we didn't just ban twitter when Musk bought it was the number of LGBTQ+ members who still actively used it and found it to be providing an important space for them. That's the sort of stuff we need to think about when doing stuff like this. It's not just "Does Dubs think this is the right thing to do?" it's "How will this affect the larger community? Will this do more harm than good?" It's the same with the constant calls to ban games, it's not just about what we feel is the right thing to do. We have to balance our own beliefs against the needs and the health of the community and understand that many times the community has to come first.

Hello everyone,

After reading through everyone's contributions to this community discussion, and especially after the most recent events, the moderation team is pretty set on the following policy changes at this time:

Note: THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION BAN. You can still discuss Musk, Zuckerberg, their sites and their products

Break Twitter/Meta embeds. This will be an automatic process from the user side: when making a new post those links will be automatically stripped and replaced with non working ones. We will also be retiring the "Official Tweet" tag.

We will be mandating at least a text transcription of any linked Twitter/Meta content. A screenshot will be recommended, but not mandatory. (A short tutorial/reference on how to upload images for posting in Famiboards using different external hosts will be provided alongside these changes).

Any Twitter/Meta links without a transcription will receive feedback, in similar terms to how we deal with boys' club language; seen as more of a nudge than a punitive warning.

OPs based on a single Twitter/Meta link with no transcription may additionally cause said thread to be locked, as per our previous policy on low effort OPs.

Due to the additional workload this might represent for staff, especially at the beginning and until posting culture shifts, resolving feedback and thread locks due to Twitter/Meta links will be done as a single mod action, which means individual mods will not need the consensus of other mods to perform these actions.

We also ask for the help of the community in reporting any links without transcription.

We welcome any extra suggestions or issues with this implementation that we might have missed; but our intention is moving forward with this as soon as we're technically able to.

Sometimes I think that the forum is really too US centered and it shows a LOT in this thread with all the ban petitions (which I agree partly).

Yeah, Twitter is really bad, but have you ever thought for the rest of languages which, the rest of alternatives are basically non existent?...

Japan related threads (particular case, the vTuber thread for example) would be basically extinct since almost all the population post on Twitter.

I brought this up in the constructive criticism thread and the response by other users was basically 'well they will move to bluesky if their engagement drops'.
