Using the Gaza and Ukraine threads as the reason they can't ban twitter is such disingenuous bullshit. People had been asking for twitter to be banned a long ass time ago, and had you, dumbs, then those threads would be full of twitter screenshots, not twitter embeds. And then when this popped off yesterday, you'd look like the progressive douchebag you claim to be. But instead, your laziness and ineptitude has you boxed in, and now you have to do a tremendous amount of work (you actually don't but I digress) to get to where you should have been a year ago.

How is this so complicated? Tell everyone that twitter is banned and if you see someone using it to file a report, then mods just ban everyone who gets reported.

Twitter is uniquely pervasive, especially when it comes to the kind of news shared here, but there aren't broad calls for the site-wide banning of Meta services, or Youtube videos because it's the "ethically right thing to do".

It's probably just whataboutism, but the level of resistance to Twitter in particular feels more reflective of people's (entirely fair) hatred for Musk himself rather than the ethical implications of embedding links to a platform he owns

I scrolled through like the last 100 posts on that sub. Not a single Twitter post among them. Why ban something that barely ever gets used on the sub anyway

I checked it on our test site, the posts would be totally and completely blank. No link, no nothing.

Like I said, we're going to break future twitter embeds. That's already decided, we're doing it. What we need to do is make sure older, and important ongoing, threads don't get totally screwed over in the process and figure out what a post-twitter embed world looks like on Era. What are the standards for people sharing screens of tweets? What does thread creation look like when a game dev announces a new trailer or a game or something on twitter? What happens when someone invariably posts a fake, or altered, tweet designed to piss everyone off? There's a bunch of little policy things to figure out with a change this big and we want to make sure we can make an announcement that answers everyone's questions and covers everyone's concerns.

So, we're doing it, chill out on that, it's just a matter of implementation and what that looks like.
