It is for top students from different Arab countries who qualify and wish to undertake a 4-year American diploma. She's in the middle of her studies and now we don't know what she's going to do.

Trump signed the " Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid" executive order, which required a suspension or pause for all global awards for 90 days at least until further evaluation. This means that her tuition will not be paid nor would she receive a stipend and that is if her award is saved.
This is insane because most foreign-funded programs have a security blanket. They usually are suspended by virtue of non-renewal after deliberations with the appropriate governmental bodies. If a scholarship ceases to exist, it should do so for newer cohorts and not for students who are in the middle of their studies. That is the usual protocol.

I work in the policy analysis space and 90% of my friends in the region work under development schemes or agencies that receive foreign aid. They all lost their jobs unofficially. Their seniors who are giving them the news themselves are at risk of lay-off, so the entire hierarchical structure of jobs is shaken.

We're not even Americans and our lives were turned upside down in a day. Foreign aid, awards and programs are not gifts that could be revoked at will, they're linked to people's livelihoods and the US' strategic interests. This is really insane.

I live equally between Tunis and Beirut. My judgment of the cities is clouded by my context there.

I'm a student in Beirut in a very nice area with a full scholarship. I get to live the " good life" there. Beirut is incredible and is an amazing mix of the east and the west ( as cliché as this is ). It's also very safe on the day-to-day side of things and I've never felt the need to hide myself or who I am . Definitely going to miss it when I leave.

Tunis is also very nice. I'm from there so I cannot be very open about certain things as it will " haunt " me down ( being gay is illegal here for one). I like the food, my friends and the lifestyle. It's also incredibly beautiful and progressive depending on what you do and who you associate yourself with. However, for me to fully be satisfied after graduating, I'll have to find a good job, live in a secure and comfortable area and frequent specific places with friends. You can have an incredible life there but only if you have money and overlook the shitty parts and the turbulent political scene.

Although this is a specific thread aimed at people in France, I'd really appreciate the input.

I'm about to embark on a master's in a prestigious university in Paris that rhymes with Potato Po while I myself do not come from a high social level and was able to pull through with scholarships and financial aid. I'm debating going, despite the good ranking and genuine desire to follow the subject, because of the social context that I do not feel attached to.

More so, I'm from North Africa. I do not speak French as well as my English as I have been always in an anglophone context ( but can communicate generally well despite some mistakes). Without being melodramatic, but having been to Paris and mingled with many students in my upcoming university, I'm always able to detect small remnants of racism that isn't explicit or hateful, but is there. The assumption that I automatically have to speak French and if I don't speak it well then it's a stamp over my intellectual ability. The neocolonialist rhetoric that some " high intellectual level " individuals exude. The behaviour that I'm the " good educated one" unlike the others. Overall, it always felt like a loaded environment where I had to be extra careful about how I portray and convey myself. I still find myself lingering if I want to do this as I also can wait for a year and explore my other options in the UK but I'm also pretty interested in the program I applied for in Paris.

Not super anxious about moving to the city itself, I have a pretty good understanding of how accommodation is, I've been there and lived in big cities before so I'm well aware of that aspect.

I'm turning 22 this month. I'm a college student originally from Tunisia and I'm currently living in Beirut, Lebanon. I identify as homosexual and being gay in the Arab world is extremely tricky. I've lived in the United States as well and can identify the big umbrella issues for LGBTQ+ individuals but the MENA region is excruciating due to the callous powers that oppress gay people. Everything, even the law itself, prevents you from existing and wrecks your life for doing that. As I grew up, I became more comfortable with myself and who I am and found a balance of being out in a selective manner that would allow me to have a fairly normal life without any " repercussions " on my direct affiliates ( family and co.)

Beirut is actually pretty open in terms of LGBTQ individuals, especially if you're a foreigner. Thus, I'm open and didn't really have any problems with that. However, I'm facing an issue of sorts :
I'm putting myself out there but didn't actually date a person yet and many people are pressuring me about this point while I'm sure of what I want. Because of the nature of gay acceptance in the MENA region, the gay population is more " underground " if that makes sense. That means that it's highly unlikely for me to just meet someone in a coffee shop and discover that they're gay and develop from there. I understand that's not how it happens even abroad but this led the community to be centered around Grindr and Tinder and be overly sexualized at that. I actually met many people from Tinder and had pleasant encounters but never felt like it will go anywhere.
Basically, my problem is somehow with how I perceive sexual relationships and dates in general. I really want to love someone and develop a genuine relationship with them in order to be physical with them. The cliched ice cream talks and movie watching of sorts. Everyone that I met is a hook-up magnet and my friends are convinced that I won't be able to find someone unless I " go for it " the first time and maybe someone will stick. I refuse to do that . ( and some of these friends imo are just embracing tolerance without having substance for it, one of them outed me unnecessarily and didn't understand why I was baffled by it, she was even offended that I scolded her for that lol) .
It becomes tricky when some people also link it to internalized homophobia which I hope isn't the case. I'm out and embracing it. I just have certain preferences for relationships that I want to adhere to, especially with the extra caution levels due to where I am.

Oh yeah, we definitely need to be paying foreign aid for bureaucrats in Tunisia, one of the best economies in the region. A regime that eliminated its recent short-lived democracy.

The fact that so many people have been completely shying away from even commenting on the possibility that Trump cheated is crazy. People really don't want to sound like MAGA (the playbook working as intended). Although I've seen people banned here for mentioning it.

Trump has cheated and broke the law in every part of his life, he tried cheating to win the previous election, he tried to overturn the results and this election the republicans were doing tons of shady shit to make people unable to vote. Trump said he knew he was going to win because he had a secret weapon or something and last week he said this about Musk: "He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide."
