It's certainly frustrating and always nonsensical, but necessary to maintain the tension and relatability of the cape worlds. Can't have super heroes fixing all the everyday problems 🙂‍↔️

What if the Arkham's revolving door just suddenly made a hero snap and he kills the joker....and he finds he is totally ok with it. Even releaved at how easy it was, so he decided to continue in secret. And some very bad people just start dsiappearing, like a Nazi supervillain that was kidnapping women and trying to bred his own army?

So I gotta know how Supes justifies his position. Is GL being too superheroic or something? Like "suffering is a central part of humanity's greatness" or something like that? It really seems out of character from what I know of Superman.

yeah that dumb shit is annoying. they can't let the heroes fix things too well or that spoils the ballgame.

ultimately you start to resent the ballgame that is comics and the perpetual need to revert to a certain state because your story can't evolve too fare beyond original problem states otherwise your commercial gimmick is damaged.

yeah all that free will protected by allowing human suffering...brought to you in perpetual waves by avoidable human suffering. or Darkseid, i guess, and not reluctance to make life actually better because "how dare we, we haven't the right, or the wisdom(...but elon musk does..)"

Superman really on that "if i take away their suffering, they'll lose the one thing that makes them endearing to me" shit.

It's why when House of X started and the X-Men showed the world that they mean business, some of us said "finally!"

None of these people even understand the objection. It's what qualifies any of these heroes to believe they know best for everyone including all consequences of their actions? KYLE IS A FUCKUP ARTIST, what gives him the authority to play god other than happenstance and the say of the Guardians? It's not about "they need to suffer" it's that Kyle doesn't know what will be the result of his actions and all of these people think his intent should somehow supersede that. Superman is cautioning him to think more carefully rather than blindly act with no concern for what bad consequences might happen. In the example given, Kyle has created fertile lands out of a barren environment, WITH ZERO CONCERN FOR OR IDEA OF WHAT THIS COULD DO TO THE ENVIRONMENT. This could create an untold series of disasters, just look at shit like mudslides in populated areas from a sudden change to the underlying ecosystem, how water drains, etc. Kyle probably didn't think of or account for this because no human can think of or know everything and Kyle is hardly some kind of expert in any field but superheroing. And someone blinded by believing they're only doing good is prone to not being skeptical about their ends.

All these ignorant narcissists on that forum never have any doubts about their infallible correctness even though they're constantly wrong about all kinds of things. So it's obvious they don't see the problem with a random dude deciding to play god.

There is a good monologue in the final issue on why Squadron Supreme utopia was destined to fail (the whole Utopia depends of good people not abusing it and they cannot trust new generations), but Mark Gruenwald put an objection on that with the final scene.

But the following list seems like a bunch of net goods to me. No guns, no army, and a promise to end death (if you want – the hibernacle program isn’t compulsory). But this is only a partial list – the Squadron has also made inroads into ending poverty and unemployment, according to an earlier issue. Does Nighthawk – or Gru – think that those advances should also be rolled back?

Although this is very true, that's a secondary objection for me, I reject the premise that moral purity (not that heroes are shown to be truly morally pure despite the writers best efforts) equals omniscience. Even in the case of Superman, Hyperion or Kyle as Ion I'm reluctant to grant omnipotence as well.

And to head off the obvious plot defense: a character who cannot be wrong is bad writing.

Oh, I agree with you. I think the last scene was Gruenwald trying to be hopeful and not go as pessimistic as Nighthawk (“you cannot trust the next generation”). Not saying that it was genuinely viable.

I’m almost 40 years old and I’m trying my best. I’m very mentally ill there have been lots of psychiatric holds put on me keeping me in hospitals against my will.
