XSX vs PS5
Not even giving them the PS5 Pro? Awful dad.

Who wouldn't want to play games with PSSR that makes the games look worse.

I know, right?

I didn't even stump up for the Elite knockoff controllers and just got them the bog standard ones.

What's worth playing that isn't just some remake shit?

Get them Astro Bot. If you're not sure about it, you can use the tech demo to gauge interest.

Astro's Playroom is free and a joy.
Ghost of Tsushima is a show piece for 4K if your TV supports it. Stunning.

Man, there's a lot of imitation Souls games on PS5. Like, a lot.

The Demon's Souls remake is still the biggest graphical showcase in my eyes. That's a damn launch title. Metro Exodus is still my favourite showcase for what raytracing can actually do.

All these modern reconstruction techniques are making the more recent current gen games look worse than their PS4 counterparts.

Gotta say, I'm really disappointed with the design of the PlayStation 5. Sharp edges on the controllers, a "slim" model that is anything but (I had to remove a shelf where I had my PS4 to fit it), inability to lay the fucking thing horizontally, disc drive on the bottom when horizontal...just not good design at all.

That "drive on the bottom" thing gets me every time. I have mine set up vertically, and when I put in a disc, I always put it in upside-down by accident.

Well, thankfully there's barely anything to play on the fucking thing. So that probably doesn't happen that much. Smile Silver linings.

It looks good but it lacks all the awesome atmosphere of the original. Im glad I got a PS5 now to play it, but after defeating the first stage im a bit dissapointed.

Like the actual ephemereal feel of it.

Some sounds and music are completely gone missing or changed.

The cool nexus theme doesnt play in the nexus

What a crock of shit

I was able to buy my cousins ps5, he bought a ps5 pro so I got his for 250€! Great deal 😎

I think it's a terrible remake. It's not only the atmosphere they fucked up.

They added loads of ornamentation to lots of shit that didn't need it. They turned areas into a Disney/High fantasy versions of what they were. Complete overdesigned garbage.

Some random battlement doesn't need a bunch of gothic architecture plastered over it. It's meant to be used by soldiers. From Soft designed them to make sense. Bluepoint seems preoccupied with making stuff look "cool".

The "cool" designs do make for a good graphical showcase though.

There's another game I think is a pretty bad game, but an amazing graphical showcase. Hellblade 2. Nobody talks about the game because it's barely anything more than just a straight up walking sim. But graphically it's one of the only games that actually shows off what Unreal 5 can do.

I always forget Hellblade 2 actually released. Never seen an AAAAAAA game drop of the radar so fast as that one besides maybe Concord (but that still got more coverage because they pulled it)

Was browsing the PS store last night. Holy shit, does any game launch complete these days? Every single game has some sort of season pass, DLC or director's cut.

The store is a mess, I don't know what to buy and I don't know if I'll get a complete game.

Feels intentional to try to drive people to PS+

Fuck Sony. Fuck MS.

Switch 2 can't launch soon enough.

Glad they had their remaster studio working on that shit instead of a Bloodborne port/remaster/remake.

How would live service god of war even work.

I would grade it absolutely fantastic.

The problem is that they haven't done anything with it.

Make CoD timed exclusive (even by a week) or have exclusive weapons. Anything to make Xbox the default platform for the CoD bros just like X360.

No, preferably I want them to port it so it runs at 60fps. I think the emulation scene almost has it at a locked 60 though. The original release has these frame pacing issues where it feels like it doesn't even run at a locked 30 fps even though it does.

So, the PS5 I bought is basically a Rocket League/Fortnite box for my kids and a PS4 Pro Pro for me.

At some point I need to resub to PS+ to play Helldivers 2, but I kind of just don't care.

Everything is live service, expansion passes and PlayStation angry dad slop™ and I genuinely feel that this will be my last PlayStation console ever.

I'll be going PC and Nintendo from here on out.

Late and gay to the Demon's Souls conversation, but I like both versions AND I think the remake is Particularly Interesting and Important.

You usually see it happen two ways.

1. Full remake: total remake, new graphics, new gameplay, new everything (think RE4)
2. Spit polish remake: same core experience, but they tightened up the graphics on level 3 (think Shadow of the Colossus)

DeS remake is unusual, in that it is mechanically super faithful, but really fucking overt about changing the design and atmosphere. I agree with everyone who says it feels different.

In the OG, the "small king" of Boletaria looked to be exactly that: a king of a kind of whatever country that isn't the biggest fish in the pond, but kind of holds its own. He stumbles upon great power (maybe because he needs it?), bad shit happens as a result.

In the Remake, Allant (and Boletaria) seem way grander. It's like they were genuinely the big-dick swinging power in the region, and the king is always pushing this advantage. He stumbles upon great power (almost certainly just because he wants it), yadda yadda.

I want to see more remakes that keep the structural similarity, but really swing for the fences on the presentation side. Almost like OG Nosferatu vs. Werner Herzog Nosferatu...the same, but somehow completely different. That's a fun way to engage with art!

I think the big stumbling block for games and why this is always such a contentious argument is that even now, remakes tend to replace originals (or even prior remakes). It's not uncommon for old versions to get totally abandoned and lost on some ancient platforms...I was just talking about this in the "what are you playing" thread regarding Ys 3. If that problem could be fixed, then I say go fucking crazy.

Give me the mechanically-identical Ico remake, but the boy is a roided-out Conan-alike, and Yonah is one of those weird 80s medieval bikini babes, and all of the shadows are slavering bloody beasts and there are bodies piled everywhere...why the hell not?
