I loved Mad Men and watched it religiously when it was airing. I always knew it was a no-holds barred depiction of the 50's, with all of its warts. Now when I'm rewatching it though, so much of the content is just painfully horrible.

It's not like the show is condoning or endorsing any of it. It's very clear that almost everybody in the show living according to the traditions and norms of the time, are also deeply unhappy and frustrated people. Everyone is racist, sexist, misogynist, homophobic, xenophobic, antisemitic, and just generally awful people with outdated views, but they're all also incredibly unsatisfied and always on the brink of having a nervous breakdown.

Maybe it's because I've grown and become more sensitive, but the honesty and realism of the time period just hits so much harder now than it did back when it first aired. It's like when you end up on the wrong type of forum and see people post shit that makes your stomach churn, thinking "how can people be this evil?"

It's still incredible though.

Basically are you comfortable with your "softer/passionate" side? I notice a lot of men will replace "feminine sounding" words like "pretty" and "cute" with "dope AF" or "that's hard". I do this myself and I have to catch myself and unlearn the "hardening of my language" in order to sound masculine. I believe (at least for me) it is an insecurity. When I was younger, I was taught "boys do this", "girls do that" which isn't or shouldn't be accurate anymore for obvious reasons. Nothing against people who still practice that, however.

Anyways— A small task for you today: I want you to look in the mirror today and call yourself cute. Literally say "I'm cute"🥰, smile, do a 360°, and say it one more time. So, a total of two "I'm cute" should come out on the earliest frame. No need to cancel into it because if you buffer it right, it will come out on frame 1.
