I've not been as active here since I told a member to get fucked with a cactus because he kept questioning my need to take my personal safety seriously during a potential date.... And it's 90% of Era, because they're all cis guys. Like it shouldn't matter whether my circumstances were because the dynamic I was about to enter attracts a lot of sex traffickers or not, people kept on questioning my methods of keeping myself safe in a situation I didn't - because cis dudes suck. On top of that a load of gaslighting from members saying "Nobody's said that" when literally loads of people were saying that. Like there's literally no support from anyone here and it suuuuucks.

I really would like to just chat casually, especially with other women here. I think it's incredibly fucked up to cheer for the suffering of people who did nothing to you. Random Americans living their lives, including the people who have fought and continue to fight against Trump, are not the same thing as soldiers fighting in a war. Even conscripts who didn't want to join the war are not the same thing as people completely unrelated. Though I also would not cheer for their deaths specifically.

The actions of a government have never spoken for every single person living in that country. It never has. That's why you can criticize the actions of a country like Russia or Israel without being bigoted towards their people. And that's not a comparison I want to make personally because I don't think the situations are comparable but everyone keeps shouting these comparisons at me as if it proves I'm wrong. But, no, I wouldn't cheer for the suffering of random civilians in Israel either.

America started this trade war. The random American you do not know who lives paycheck to paycheck and now can't afford to keep the lights on didn't.
And the part of my post everyone keeps ignoring is that I understand and support the actions taken by Canada here. I don't blame them for responding to the actions of the American government. My issue is with this "fuck all Americans, I hope you all suffer more" attitude some people have. And the wave of people suggesting I'm making this up or it's a strawman is ridiculous. It's been in every single thread about this for the past several days. There were so many people salivating at the idea entire states having the power cut that I had to confirm in a thread what they meant by that because I couldn't believe people were saying such a thing and I made sure to specify if that would also include hospitals and emergency services. And if anyone tries to suggest "hey maybe making this about the people vs the people isn't the best idea", y'all come out comparing them to people saying "not all men".

I can see that the way I think about this is clearly a minority opinion here. And nobody enjoys the dogpile responses of seeing 10+ replies insulting you or telling you to shut up. But I felt it worth making one last post to clarify my feelings on this. Personally, I like the speech Trudeau made the other day. He said that nobody wins in a trade war and he knows we didn't ask for this any more than you did. That's the truth. So cheering on and celebrating the suffering of any civilian on either side of this is, to me, wrong. If that makes me a piece of shit, alright I guess.

This post is an excellent example of the uniquely American appeal of Trump. Even in opposing him, Ashes of Dreams ultimately supports his madness: after all, only selfish Canadians could possibly want to harm America (economically, to be clear) by defending itself, ergo the best and least harmful option is for... well, exactly what Trump wants, to annex Canada; there will be no tariffs and no suffering Americans, then. And what of Canadian desires? Well, those are, naturally, secondary to American interests--Canada's lot is to serve, I suppose.

Like can you not take a step back and see how you are supporting the very thing you despise with toothless rhetoric like this? The path of minimal suffering is surrendering, but only from the point of view of the conqueror; for the conquered, they lose everything. And make no mistake: that is what you're arguing beyond all your honeyed words.

This is the moment that will define all our lives and we cannot afford to be spineless or compromising; sovereignty is non-negotiable. Canada is not for sale, not for money nor false appeals to sympathy. And yes, we know Americans do not give a fuck; we know.

Been doing a lot of networking. I'm building up connections around me for mutual aid and potentially defense. At work, with my family, and even on my block. Personally I have just been signing petitions from MoveOn since Janurary

I'm not a religious man, but I go to sleep every night with a short prayer to whoever will listen to let nature take its course with an obese 78 year old man. And every morning when I wake up, that's what I hope for.
