I’ve yet to see it, but there’s something admirable about Coppola willing it into the existence. Putting up his own money from his long career to make the movie he wanted to. Many directors use the stock “I’m proud of the movie” line after making like Red One or Ghostbusters 7. Rarely does somebody put their whole self into a project at a certain scale. Few can afford to.

Enjoyed the hell out of American Fiction. More poignant and touching than I expected; it's got some funny bits, but the marketing and trailer bills it as a race-comedy, when it's a family drama with absolutely luscious handling of racial issues.

Okay, I'm literally only 15 minutes in and I have some thoughts. 

There's no subtlety in this, right from the get-go the narrator tells you what's going on. Francis certainly has something to say but it's so ham-fisted. It looks cheap too. If it weren't for the the gazillion famous actors in this thing giving performances that range from "scenery chewing" to "I don't know why I'm here other than as a friend and it's cool to see all these other famous people" this wouldn't be worth watching.

It's a good thing Adam Driver is in this. Because it feels like one of his SNL sketches. He gives a very serious performance in something that doesn't feel very serious.

The fact that the other actors can keep from laughing during Megalopolis is a testament to their great acting abilities.

The whole time I'm watching this, I can't help but wonder what the other actors are thinking while they're making this. Do they know it's shit and are here just for the good time? Or do they really think they're making meaningful art with a message.? 


High AF 15 Minutes in Review: 
What if Neil Breen or Tommy Wiseau were friends with a lot of famous actors and made a bizzaro Atlas Shrugged meets Metropolis(1927) self indugent movie. With it's Monty Pythonesque characters and Tyler Durden philosophy this makes for good RLM style fun with film buff friends but not much else.



Ol' Francis is the only one with writing credit, too.

Weird that it won best screenplay as it's by far the weakest aspect of the movie. Acting, art direction and music are really good, but the "scheming" was super simplistic, the "liberals" vs "conservatives" speaches were cringeworthy, and the little twist at the end was very much current year.

Captain America 4 is really bad. Despite jokes and all about it, I tried. Went in with lowered expectations. I found enjoyment in Kraven. This somehow was worse.

The weirdest part is nearly everybody he fights is over 60. There’s a prolonged scene where he’s struggling against a regular 65-year-old man. Harrison Ford is 82. At one point he’s chasing after a guy in his 70s. How old is Robert Downey Jr?
