That reminds me, fuck Era for giving their dumb sky daddy a pass on ResetEra. The worst of the abrahamic religions and they get their own thread to pat each other on the back for misogyny and intolerance in the form of islam.

So I can't engage in continuing to hype it up in any context. I have a poster I need to take down from the wall. 😭
I have to know how old this person is, because I refuse to believe an adult

Quote:Hello, I'm back from break!
Have a few things I've been wanting to discuss so wrote it down.
Point 1:
I really dislike the "People who don't like something/Have criticisms of something shouldn't get to speak! They should just "move on!" or "Not ruin it for the rest of us!"" mentality many fans online have. It's always from fans who either take any form of criticism a slight against them or love the game and get pissy if they see someone not like it as much as them and acti like the arbiter of what is valid and invalid criticism (I'll get back to that); and what "invalid" criticism is seems to always be social issues. I'm sorry but no, I won't be silent about my criticisms. If I'm in a public forum, I'm allowed to speak my mind and won't be told to shut up by some insecure fanboys.
I've been shat on by that mentality WAY TOO many times in the past decades online from being told off for having issues with the depiction of mental health in games, or exploitive RNG in video games, lack of southpaw controls with motion control games, lack of LGBTQ+ rep and most of all, the treatment of women in video games and criticism of objectification (and yeah this was something I especially was made to feel from the fighting game fandom, especially around 2011-2014); that last one REALLY brings out the piss babies. Like you see this when women, POC and LGBTQ+ reviewers and journalists criticize games. Cyberpunk 2077's launch was so blatant with this, criticism of the game and Projekt Red's transphobia and other social issues? Constant abuse, threats and dismissal (especially towards women criticising the game). The moment gamers realized the game had bugs, oh NOW the criticism is valid (even criticism women critics were shat on for bringing up before because hypocrisy, what's that! /s).
Point 2:
I feel like fandoms exploit wlw fans (and mlm fans), happy to use them to show how progressive and caring their fandoms or to weaponize them against criticism but will then throw them off the boat the moment those wlw fans speak up or criticize the work in any way.
I remember the lead up to Bayonetta 3 and its release and despite not being a fan of the series, I felt really bad for wlw fans because it felt like they got exploited by the fandom. Like it felt like that fandom used it's lesbian and wlw fans as a shield against criticism for years (including against other wlw players who didn't like Bayonetta or had issues with it), but the moment those wlw and lesbians fans were upset and started criticizing, they were thrown under the bus by the fandom for the same mentality I described in my previous point. It felt so damn gross. I felt the same personally last year with the Life is Strange fandom and I've seen this time and again.
And dear fucking Lilith if I see another straight person tell me "No ships should ever be canonized!" or dictate to me what is and isn't valid rep or wants I'm going to scream. With the former, it's always only ever applied to non-straight ships, they never seem to stop to think that by their own logic, that would mean no characters in fiction would get into a relationship, like people do remember that "shipping" was coined by the X-Files fandom to describe fans who wanted Mulder and Scully in a relationship and then got popularized via the Pokémon fandom by "Rocketshippers" (Jessie + James). I doubt any of these people would pull this shit about the MANY times straight-ships get canonized (aka all the fucking time) because it's not "weird" in their eyes, it's "normal" and expected to them, not like those "crazy" ideas of a man kissing another man or a woman finding other women attractive!
And there is always implication that lesbians and wlw are bullies, toxic or weird when it comes to this shit, that even throwing scraps at us is considered bad that ruin the series. And sorry but no, wlw and lesbians (and mlm and gay men) are not toxic for having our own fanons and wants, I'm so sick of it. I'm sick of the idea if one wlw or a few wlw fans do something awful, we're all to blame, that's it's the collective blame that we're all bad. I'm sick a snarky fanboys taking swipes at Shipping and ALWAYS focusing on non-straight shipping (can't imagine why /s). I'm so sick of being made to shut up because I might be upsetting the straights.
And for the latter point, kindly fuck off in telling me what is and isn't a valid want. Like a common one for me is why the fuck aren't existing characters not allowed to be wlw or mlm, especially those already hinted at (like people do get lesbians, gays, bi people etc do work on these games and fiction right? That devs do push this shit right?... Oh right no, they don't)? This is something that winds me up.
Point 3:
I haven't seen what the Street Fighter fandom is like right now after it's been months since Mai released but honestly, back in Jan-March the Street Fighter fandom (and the Street Fighter team), both here on ERA and the rest of the web made me real uncomfortable with how blatant it was with the lack of respect of women characters. Like everything around Mai was just weird, creepy and fetishistic, every thread about her on ERA was just gross and boys club talk and it became clear that all the talk about caring about women was just lies. Like whether it was Bluesky, YouTube, here, Reddit, you couldn't escape the majority of men just being weird about Mai and not caring about how they were making women feel (and shitting on women who did speak up or didn't behave like they want women to behave). I have a hard time seeing Elena getting treated more respect than Mai.
And honestly, this isn't the first time I've been made to feel like that by Street Fighter, from the exploitive objectification of SFV, just the grossness I've seen from male fans constantly about characters like Poison and like we make fun of the "Her ass is part of character" but that Cammy thread was gross with how so many fans spoke up in SUPPORT of objectification, like the very idea of a woman not being sexualized or objectified (or a fighting game that doesn't do that) is considered wrong or bad because male fighting game fans want all fighters made for them, to hell to anyone else. Like before I blocked ERA for myself, there was a thread that popped up called "Chun-Li or Juri" and just like… It was pure cringe and boys club through and through. Shit like this just feels so common with any SF (and SNK to be blunt) discussion anywhere on the web.
Like I've said in the past though, I've got a long history of this and fighting games, like I remember the SFxT shit, I remember how harassment at tournaments and women's criticism was just downplayed, dismissed and ignored back in the early 10s (I refuse to call that era the "Golden age" Like nowadays harassment is a least mostly taken seriously and tournaments like EVO have cleaned up their act, but it's hard to notice some many of the attitudes towards women characters has just remained and normalized, like fighting game are just expected to be "horny bait" and you should never question or criticize it, you shouldn't just be okay with it or be told to fuck off.
Point 4 (also Street Fighter related because I love fighting games and it's why I criticize them so harshly):
Do I annoy people when I push for Cammy from Street Fighter to be revealed as a lesbian? I'm fully serious when I do this because it would make so many wlw and lesbians fans happy, I think it would be great representation and it would make me incredibly happy; like I'm serious, it would be a gaming event for me if one of my single favourite video game characters came out.
I ask because I've been second guessing myself the past few months of the web. Like I'm just annoying other lesbians and wlw on ERA with it.
Like I fucking see the meltdowns fans and chuds masquerading as fans would have (because despite wlw couples apparently having it "easier", actual lesbians, bi, pan and other wlw canon women in games, especially in the AAA seem to cause gamers to shit themselves in anger); but fuck them! Please Capcom!
I ain't reading all that but just copypasting it I saw at least a couple handful of "wlw"s, good lord.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/casual-ableism-the-left-and-online-discourse-long-op.1149897/
Echoes wrote:Note: My OP focuses on ableism towards neurodivergent people and with mental disabilities & health conditions. I don't consider myself or feel comfortable talking for people with physical health conditions. For those who have physical disabilities, please feel free to discuss them.
Something I've seen repeatedly over the past year is the attitude that ableism is only an issue of the right wing and chuds, that only people like Trump and Grummz can be ableist; and the left is supportive of the rights of neurodivergent people and people with mental disabilities.
However, to be blunt, that is sadly far from the case, and I've experienced and seen plenty of ableism and ignorant takes from supposed allies and Leftist I would love to say ERA is better than other places like Reddit or Twitter in this regard, but sadly no, ERA has a long history of users poorly handling mental health topics and being exceptionally ableist and nasty.
By far the most blatant and common examples I've experienced online are ableist slurs used against chuds and rightwing arseholes or trying to justify chud, right wing and general arsehole behaviour by assuming they MUST be autistic, have mental health issues or are just "messed up in the head".
I shouldn't have to explain why these two are so offensive or hurtful, yet I've seen this shit for decades and it's been getting worse. The former makes it VERY clear you don't give a fucking damn about mental health issues, that you only pretend to but are all too happy to throw that away if they "deserve" it. We see the same shit with trans, gender fluid and binary people, people pretend to be allies but if someone does something wrong, their all too happy to start misgendering and deadnaming them because they "deserve" it; except the person doesn't even need to have any mental health issues for the slurs to start getting thrown.
As for the latter, do people not see how comparing right wing, chuds and bigots to autistic people is exceptionally hurtful and de-moralizing. How as an autistic trans woman, seeing people online call transphobes autistic is fucking hurtful, basically saying that I'm no better than the people who want me dead because of something I was born with. Or assuming that being bigoted makes them autistic is a shitty thing to say and think; that it implies autistic people are inherently bigoted, unempathetic, hateful and violet. This and the other comparisons should be fucking obvious, yet it happens CONSTANTLY, see any thread about gun violence in the US.
But even beyond the obvious, there is a very insidious side to this that I don't see discussed. I see it often come into the open whenever the discussion of intelligence gets brought up because supposed allies are VERY fucking quick to start espousing pseudo-intellectual, anti-vax and ableist rhetoric. IQ being a very common one, supposed allies LOVE to bring up IQ, despite the fact IQ and IQ tests have been repeatedly shown to be a heavily flawed way to show intelligence, are incredibly ableist, both for people who are neurodivergent, have mental health issues and people with physical health issues and have been repeatedly used throughout history to discriminate against minorities and women, from forced sterilization, blocking minorities from benefits and jobs etc. However, they don't care, as long as they feel smart and feel superior to others, that's all they really care about.
And honestly, I know I'm going to ruffle some feathers here but sorry, over the years I've seen so many "allies" truly only care about feeling intellectually superior; not actually caring about being allies. They care about winning online arguments, feeling superior to chuds and acting "smart" then contributing to helping those who need help; and when it comes to mental health discussion, this heavily ties to what I was discussing at the beginning of the OP because these people are so often the same to happily use ableist slurs against chuds and will quickly turn against you if you call them out or ask them to stop because they never cared. They just wanted to win online arguments and act intellectually superior to feel good about themselves.
What's the point of being "smart" if all you use it for is to act superior (and a lot of the time for the pettiest of things) to others online and not contributing to helping others or fixing the system so other can benefit? It's especially infuriating when I see middle-class/well-off white cis straight people do this because it reeks of failing to understand how their own privilege and wealth gained them access to better education, opportunities and privileges that the system blocks and make harder/impossible for the people their mocking and looking down upon, many of which are smart POC, LGBTQ+ people, women, disabled and neurodivergent people who didn't get those chances.
Side tangent (You can ignore this): There is a clip that a certain group LOVES to constantly post everywhere, from Twitter, bluesky, reddit etc which is the beginning of the film Idiocracy where they show a (white) middle class couple as the "smart" people not having children while showing a collage of clips of poor "lower" class people having babies, making it clear that the "lesser" people are ruining society and to blame for society's ills. It infuriates me when I see this clip being called "A documentary" because it's the exact shit I'm talking about. Yes, it's poor and "Lower class" people ruining society, not the capitalist systems that makes them poor, not the right wing destroying the public education system, not the system that makes it hard or impossible for "lower class" people from getting access to birth control, condoms, abortions etc (funny how the misogyny in that movie get ignored by its fans), no it's not the media (especially news media) fault; NO! it's the fault of the poor and disenfranchised who have the least power in society; we should look down at the poor, homeless and needy with contempt (well more then what society already train us to do) and treat the white middle class as our saviours (who benefit from the wealth imbalance and systems that stop the poor from getting access to the same benefits they do) because their inherently smarter and just have better genes then the rest of us, the poor should be purged from society (because eugenics is good/s) … God I fucking hate that movie. (Side tangent over)
Like with being cool, smart people don't have to "act" smart, they just are. They don't need to feel superior to others because it's pointless other than to stroke your own ego. To be blunt, I don't find people who feel the need to act superior to others, belittle others for making mistakes, constantly talking about why things other people enjoy are intellectual trash smart; I just find that egotistical, petty and toxic.
And this stuff goes even more insidious then that because you will often see people declaring X is a sign of being an idiot or Y is why people are more "stupid" or "dumb" and often what their pointing to are things people who are neurodivergent or other mental health issues struggle with or have helped us with making our lives better than easier; their all too happy to called us idiots, make our lives worse and pretend we don't exist to make themselves feel better.
I keep seeing shit like "We should go back to the time before smart phones and laptops!" where it's obvious the person saying this has never fucking considered how shit like that can and will make it harder for people with disabilities, both physical and mental. You see this shit all the time for topics about education or job hiring, people saying shit without ever considering how what their proposing could affect people negatively (FYI: Exams are a terrible form of determining "intelligence" in general; and many people with neurodivergency and other mental health issues needing extra time, scribes and other such features to make fair and doable. So personally, anyone pushing closed book in-person exams can go rightly fuck off).
I've seen this taken to extremes to shit like audiobooks, audio description options or even fucking subtitles being accused of making people idiots. Hell, video game discussions can be very rotten when it comes to this, where accessibility options can be treated as a dirty word; with people who need them being accused as just not being "skilled enough" or just need to "Git gud" and of course the accusation that accessibility features makes people "Less skilled", less smart or are just "dumbing the game down".
Before I blocked ERA for my break, there was a thread I saw a thread about intelligence where lot of the responses was the type of smug superiority I've already brought up, but there was one post in particular that really struck a nerve with me that went after people for spelling issues, comparing people who write "To" instead of "Too" to Trump voters and right wing nutjobs, basically calling people with issues with spelling as scum.
As I've written many, many times, I'm autistic and one of the issues I had growing up was writing and spelling. I have bad handwriting; people get annoyed when I write slowly so my handwriting is legible. Primary School was difficult because I needed extra classes, I had a really nasty P2 and P3 teachers who'd give me a really hard time for it and treat me like shit knowing damn well I was autistic, one even outed me as autistic to the entire class (an actual crime in the UK for a Teacher to do) and was bullied for it throughout my School life. Didn't help that I was also a southpaw (along with being shy and introverted due to excessive bullying) which made it extra difficult given how Schools seem to refuse to make it easier for left-handed people (Teachers reading this by the way, if you have student or students who are left handed, GIVE THEM THE FUCKING LEFT HANDED SCISSORS FOR FUCK SAKE!)
Even today, I still struggle with spelling, especially if I'm in a rush. For longer posts and OPs (including the one you're reading now) I will use a text to speech to read out what I've written to catch grammar and spelling mistakes; and I'm sure a few will still make it through. Laptops, spell checkers and the like are amazing for me because it allows me to write without having to worry about people not understanding me, to let me fully articulate myself… And in many people's minds that makes me stupid, a blight on society that should never have been born and worse then that, no better then the type of people who want me dead, the type of people who would vote for monsters like Trump; but hey, as long as some people online can make themselves feel intellectually superior it's all okay! Am I right!? /s
I know many autistic people suffer this online. I know many struggle, myself included from time to time to understand tone in posts and tweets, which is especially problematic online on forums like this one where nearly everything is text; where it's even harder to figure the tone of posts, especially ones that don't indicate "/s" for sarcastic posts. I've seen here and everywhere on the web where when Autistic people have asked for clarity or misunderstood a post or tweets tone, they've been treated like idiots to be belittled and mocked because to so many people they see it as a sign of being unintelligent and as it's become clearer to me, they think we're no better then Trump-tier trash, the same trash currently making out lives harder and unbearable.
And to be very blunter, in many cases, people who constantly need to prove their "smart" often show themselves not to be in very toxic ways. I've seen people declare asking for help is a sign of lacking intelligence, that you've failed in being able to just brute force yourself into learning things. Same with getting things wrong occasionally and just, no, no it isn't.
People learn in different ways and accepting that you don't know everything and will need help is to me a sign of intelligence. No one can be an expert at everything, being wrong isn't a crime or a bad thing and can be a great teacher. Some people learn through seeing others doing it first or through repeated practice, written instructions, verbal instructions etc. Even the smartest of people will make mistakes, get things wrong or misspeak, does that make them "idiots" worthy of dogpiles, insults and belittlement from internet "smart" commenters? No, no it isn't but sadly it's so damn common.
It's funny how we autistic people routinely get accused of lacking empathy, yet in my experience, the ones who show the least amount of it are "normal" people online needing to prove themselves to be the smartest person in the room.
So many people just do not have a grasp of psychology and mental health, do not get it and in many cases, refuse to get it; happily falling into ableism for their own benefit. In many ways it feels like people with mental health issues are treated as an acceptable target by both the left and right, people it's okay to throw under the bus.
And for my closing, one final observation, there are some people on the left that think that just being on the left automatically makes themselves more pure, righteous and smarter. That they can't be bigoted, have problematic views or simply can't be wrong or affected by toxic masculinity or right-wing propaganda… And their wrong. Everyone has their blind spots, everyone has their issues and shortcomings, that's just being human; and for many, that can be understanding neurodivergent people or understanding how not to be ableist. Like I lived through the MMR scare, I know how "smart" people can so easily fall for shit. A truly intelligent person will understand that, admit they have those shortcomings and learn to improve themselves rather then stubbornly refuse to listen to others and just think they are the smartest person by default.
For an autistic person it can feel like shouting to a boulder when trying to discuss these issues; some people just stubbornly refuse to learn and will go on to repeatedly be ableist while acting smug and superior (especially when they act like they know better than your lived-in experiences or because their "fighting for you" they can say what they want).
And in the gaming space like this forum, it can feel like shouting into a valley of large boulders because casual ableism is just so damn normalized and accepted. It pisses me off to no end how people REFUSE to understand the issues around addiction and gambling addictions in particular, issues people with addictive personalities suffer or how so many games use tactics to abuse and exploit people who suffer from these; especially fucking fanboys who feel personally attacked when their favourite game gets criticized (or worse, someone with shares in the company like I depressingly learn some users on this site are go out of their way to downplay and scream at people who bring up these issues to keep safe their investments) and scream at people for daring to bring them up; all to happily to use the de-humanizing language like "Whales" and use stock Pro-Corporate phrases like "It's OPTIONAL!!!!!", "It supports the devs" (who in my experience can also be ableist and not caring about how their games exploit people with mental health issues) etc etc.

It's such a sad, bitter irony that so many impressionable young men and women despise transfolk by proxy because they were told to by shitbags.
It's not hyperbole to say that I would be a worse person today if not for the trans people, and queer people in general, that I've met and made friends with.
That said, I'm fully aware of the dichotomy that trans people are gonna witness today, and frankly always, of cis allies proselytising about their desire to help, by sharing links to GoFundMes and resources, and then never actually following through and putting their own money where their mouth is.
I myself am as guilty of this as the next cis person, obviously. But due to current events, certainly in the US, it's no longer something that can be ignored for our own convenience so we can all retreat back to comfort zones.
So just ask yourself, do you really need to buy the Steam version of The First Berserker: Khazan today or can you put it to the side for a while and spend that money in a place that's more worthy of it?
You can afford to be bored for a hot minute.

The grift by some of these people are almost more reminiscent of the carbon offset credits companies buy. “Look, our company invested in credits. We’re one of the good ones! Please leave us alone!”
Though that comparison is charitable. A more accurate one would be Jesse Jackson shaking down companies and people with threats if they didn’t contribute to his ‘charity’.
and now that I am finally back, let us resume the review of my grievances

For people so obsessed with "grifters," it's amazing how Reee stays strangely quiet on the blatant, open grifting/e-begging within the Trans community. Hell, they aren't just staying quiet, but actively encouraging it.

Remember back before the internet, these retards just mumbled this shit to themselves while the parents dealt with raising an invalid.
Almost like the internet is basically now a place for retards to be heard.
Good on them
I don't know where to put this, maybe in the video game section or random talk or something, but I don't really care, just some fun drama to follow
there's been a long-running court case between the notoriously litigious disgraced Donkey Kong cheater billy mitchell and the gaming drama/documentarian youtuber karl jobst which is about to conclude in a livestreamed court decision in 6 hours
I don't actually remember the substance of billy's complaint here, it has something to do with karl defaming him, I think implying he was a murderer because he was happy that apollo legend died, and whether or not karl's apology/retraction was legally sufficient
but billy has involved himself in so many ridiculous court cases over the years, often with hilarious self-defeating arguments, that it's hard to keep track of it all
someone who's been covering the trial in detail and the arguments made by both sides
the movie (in full) that put billy on the map and made everyone realize he was a supreme dick
a youtube playlist of karl's videos about billy and his entourage
a recent representative video of the kind of legal idiocy billy gets up to regularly:
Wonder how many cakes Echos ate while on break?

STFU you dumb fuck. Nobody is reading that verbal diarrhoea
