I know it's not the point (teachers shouldn't have to bear the burden of this shit and put their jobs on the line), but I wonder if it reaches a point where so many teachers are being fired that ultimately the state has to tell parents "hey, sorry, Jimmy is gonna have to repeat 2nd grade because we fired everyone in the school" or some shit.

The funniest part of this to me, former teacher, is that many of these kids hate their parents with more heat than most of us could muster for our worst enemies. They grow up mostly, but not always, resenting this cloying vicariousness and those parents then turn to Facebook to complain their kids won't talk to them because they have "different opinions" or whatever.

The second funniest part is that no one really knows just how into this shit a significant number of teachers are. Teachers are treated as these paragons of virtue when the stories we read, from the US especially, are selected for a widespread narrative that teachers are (and should remain) vaunted saints who sacrifice everything for them kids. Gee, I wonder why a martyr complex narrative is so prevalent and why its very prevalence doesn't actually ever seem to lead to positive change. I think it's partly because the teachers themselves believe in it, even if it doesn't apply to them or anyone they know.

Telling this story over and over makes everybody miss the fact that it's never really been true except in uncommon cases (many teachers are good ppl but have the same dumbass notions of the profession as the most smooth brained person you know) and, when it is, other teachers tend to treat the "good ones" the same way all cops treat "good cops". In my experience, personal and otherwise, you just don't last if you give a shit and the ppl there for the money, for the cosigned jailing and control of kids, outnumber us by design.

If I had a buck for every time I heard a teacher essentially decrying the freedom and agency of children in favor of some perennial tradition like uniforms, surnames, or whatever it is (that never lasted b/c it was untenable and because modern research recommends against a lot of "traditions" in the space), I'd have gotten out w/ a nest egg instead of a reflexive disgust for education as an institution.

Teachers ARE part of the problem. Admin is even worse. Universities and colleges still operate as if every teacher is an aware, thoughtful, well-meaning person who takes their societal role seriously enough to stand up to every vile influence that currently infests the institution. In reality, in the actual schools and classrooms, way too many teachers are there for the wrong reasons and I've only ever met a few that didn't treat actual scholarship of pedagogy as "paper I needed to get a job".

To me, the focus on everything else going on is depressingly after the fact. If we don't fix education, it's just gonna be avoidable crisis after dumb dystopian nightmare for the rest of our lives. It absolutely is where shit needs to start but it is consistently overlooked or given lip service cuz most ppl either don't know anything about how the institution actually works or, worse, think they know everything cuz they, too, went to school. Parents are especially bad for this, down to angry emails about "incorrect science" cuz it doesn't match the lowest-bidder textbook they had 20 yrs prior.

I'm gonna be talking about this at the start of tonight's stream. Understand I can't be the champion of issues like this, but I certainly can be made aware and not supportive. Avoiding the game entirely just causes a whole conversation I really don't want to have.

We all know there's no way this is being reverted or changed, sadly. However, I will remain extremely critical of his inclusion and execution in-game, and how it's the opposite of what I'd want for the future of SNK games.
