It seems Americans in particular struggle to understand how this could possibly be the case but that in itself is a peculiarity of American culture no better example of which could be found than to see someone arguing that addressing, never mind punishing, a population that cheers on evil, funds evil, votes for evil, does evil to its ppl and others... is somehow wrong. The failure to do this is why your civil war never ended, why crimes against the indigenous did not end in my country, why Nazis exist in 2025 at all.

Maybe you just get squeamish at the idea of consequences because you know they're coming for you sooner rather than later. Maybe when you're the one who feels like people are gonna blame you and hate you for what your people do to others, you just can't bring yourself to agree that you, too should face the music. But that's why some people are remembered as collaborators and others as rebels.

It's also interesting that they don't extend their point. Weren't all the "victors" of the Civil War and World War II complicit in the many many years they acceded to slavery and Nazis/fascists before they finally took up arms? In fact, the colonialist UK/France were the only ones who went to war. The US was attacked by the Confederates, the US/Soviets were attacked by the Axis, etc. The Soviets even were the other party invading and dividing Poland, the event that sent the colonialist powers to war with the Axis.

The latter paragraph seems to suggest that "rebels" are/were not complicit, but history shows that everyone is complicit if we use the standard they're advocating seriously. There have never been any true rebels, only collaborators. This person is a collaborator, they admit their leaders are committing crimes but they haven't eliminated them.

A hearty "fuck you" to everyone who baselessly suggested Kilmar was dead. I always saw it for what it was: preemptive surrender and nothing more than an attempt to absolve yourself from our collective responsibility of bringing Kilmar back home.

I was astonished how so many people here were leaping to the conclusion that he was dead with zero proof. He had only been there for a couple of weeks and the controversy over his detainment was highlighted within days of him being there. It was extremely unlikely he would be already dead that quickly. The Trump administration doesn't want to release him because they don't want to set a precedent of being forced to return people from this terrible place, they want to maintain mythos that they're "disappeared". Not because he was already dead. It was embarrassing so many people were jumping to that conclusion, so quickly with no evidence. You just end up hurting the overall cause because the issue wasn't whether he was dead or alive. It was that he was sent to El Salvador with zero due process, the administration admitted they made a mistake, and refuse to try to get him back for due process.

The left always falls into the trap over prematurely obsessing over the worst case scenario, so when the worst case scenario doesn't happen, the terrible scenario that does actually happen "doesn't seem as bad" because it didn't match the hype.

I'm glad Senator Van Hollen kept pressing for a meeting and didn't settle for a photo-op outside the gates. In addition to the info he got from the Vice President of El Salvador, his trip has actually been effective in moving the ball forward and hopefully getting Kilmar back into the US.

Why not a ban too?

I feel conflicted here. I get why so many feel the need to boycott or criticize this product from a perspective that isn't actually focused on the product itself. But at the same time I see just as much sentiment in other threads lamenting the closure of studios and the challenges an average developer faces maintaining a career in this industry. How do you reconcile those two things? This dude clearly sucks, but he didn't make the game all by himself, and I'm sure most of those developers wouldn't agree with his views on most things anyway.

I personally really liked the game and thought some of the things they did set it apart from other souls likes. It’s gorgeous to look at too. Obviously I’m biased, but it’s a bummer to see to much shitting on something that the employees are clearly working hard on. I don’t think I’ve seen a game get this much work done on it post release and continue to provide those updates for free. Just wish this aspect was acknowledged a little more.
