Like there were American sitcoms from the start of TV, from the 40s and 50s of hating your partner. "Why I oughtta"... Sitcoms never stopped portraying wives as nagging and husbands as manchildren. It probably was ripped from reality and exaggerated it for comedic effect. A happy couple in media is unusual. So people thought marriage is like TV. And then they unconsciously repeat those same tropes in real life with their own spouses in front of friends or coworkers. Maybe because they're too scared to confront or resolve issues with their spouse so they vent out to others. It's been normalised for decades. Venting is very helpful, but villainising your spouse to others will get more black-and-white than nuanced responses.

When I got married, I got these responses from just a few people. These were likely people in unhappy relationships generalising. Then when children came along, they would do the doom-and-gloom routine again. We just surrounded ourselves with people who actually like being married or like having children.

Nah. You're just missing the point. The thing this question should make clear to everyone is that there are a lot of instances where dehumanizing women is considered "ok" and because it is said, because as one dipshit here put it, "it feels right", people continue to do it and cyclically claim that doing it a whole lot is why it's okay.

This same logic is used to justify every slur and every dehumanizing word in our collective lexicons, thank you English. This same phenomenon occurs with the word "pussy" which should never be used to refer to a person, it's inherently debumanizing and misogynistic, but where pop culture and dipshits everywhere might get the memo about some slurs, they will happily pivot to others and do the whole routine all over again.

Every single dehumanizing word, from the N word, to the R word, has this exact same debate made about it and the people trying to make it ok, let alone ignore it, are wrong pretty much fucking always. "Female" used in a colloquial sense, as a noun, is not exclusively a slur and I am not claiming it is.

But that's the case sometimes, right? Innocuous seeming words getting coopted as cultures tee up a new round of catastrophic dehumanization. Sometimes this is even intentional, as we've seen repeatedly with words like woke, acronyms like CRT and DEI.

The bigot, the oppresser, is the one who invents the new dehumanizing code. The people who use it are on their side, never mine. I work really fucking hard to drive dehumanizing words out of my language and it's not easy but so fucking what? Cry me a river about how sometimes the best path ain't the one with the least resistance.
