I guess all those people "slamming" it should hang their heads in shame and commit sudoku online.

How can you be a sex educator when not a single person in the world has ever wanted to have sex with you?

Quote:When we met on a recent afternoon, at a comedy club in the West Village, Minhaj acknowledged, for the first time, that many of the anecdotes he related in his Netflix specials were untrue. Still, he said that he stood by his work. “Every story in my style is built around a seed of truth,” he said. “My comedy Arnold Palmer is seventy per cent emotional truth—this happened—and then thirty per cent hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction.”

So it's 0% factual

Does anyone actually believe the "funny" anecdotes so prevalent in American comedy actually happened?

The best bit is turning a prom rejection into an elaborate story about how the girl and her family are racist and anti islam. Briefly using her real photo in his act. Providing enough background for her to get doxed and harassed. Not for a punchline but to engender some sort of guilt. Yakov Smirnoff would never.

I think the difference here is that in a 'bit' most people understand that there is not a baseball player named Who, and they've not been put on first base; this is different to 'reportage' based comedians - eg your John Oliver types, who are effectively presenting their routines as humorous political commentary on things that did in fact happen.

When Leno does his opening monologue, the expectation is that the news stories he presents are factual occurrences, and the humour is derived as the reaction to them. A 'daily show' type routine has the expectation that it is a longform version of that 'react to the news' type of comedy, not pure fabrication.

Doing a bit about how endemic racism is that you cant get a date when the truth is you got friend zoned, and the girl who was upgront about not wanting to date you is now getting harassed as a racist is fuuuuuuuuuuuucked up, and he should take responsibility for that.

Any comedian's joke that starts with, "So I was..." is what I'm talking about.
