She has also worked to reform raider culture and raise the awareness of her peers."

We believe that all three aspects are an important component in creating a game that celebrates history and culture while acknowledging the respect and work required to live in a world wounded by colonialism."
"In this game, we seek to continue in that work alongside Crystal Dynamics by creating a sandbox for you to tell stories that address colonialist themes in play and create your own stories of respect and support for the people and cultures your Seekers encounter."
Who in the world would buy a tomb raider pen and paper game? And who of those would buy a tomb raider game that's not even about tomb raiding. It's insane to me how stuff like this gets any funding at all
Imagine being the type of person who thinks "tackles anti-imperalism as its design ethos and carries that into its mechanics" is a coherent thought.
I couldn't keep the names straight in that story. Who's Giggle? Who's tickle???

It's safest to assume they're all dickheads and leave it at that.

what's an example of an anti-imperialist mechanic?
"normally when you are affected positively in role playing games, you get a plus to something, like +5 to hit. that reinforces attitudes of addition, gaining something, infinite unsustainable growth, perhaps even taking from those less fortunate. in our game, you want to roll under the target number, and accordingly you are given minuses as a bonus, which aids in nurturing a mindset of less being more, of giving back."

Someone who knows their way around a Lada?
That Tomb Raider board game should add a storyline in which Lara gets breast cancer. Imagine the drama of a vulnerable Lara Croft still persisting on her worldly adventures despite her illness. It needs fleshing out, no pun intended, but I guarantee the gaming world would be shocked, stunned, and moved by the effort to make Lara's character more meaningful.
This tomb raider discussion reminds me of that era thread where chinese billionaires were hiring art thieves to go steal stuff out of public museums to instead live forever in some rich assholes guest bathroom and era were all "fuck yea! decolonisation!"

lol even Brianna Wu, who wrote an absurd article about how it was only the 2013 reboot that made Lara truly "iconic", hates this changes
lmao, they straight up amputated the legs of the transbian for some extra woke points.
How can this Tomb Seeker run away from helicopter gunships and climb mountains
The only thing that can make this better is if Sweet Baby worked on this shit.
Why do they all use that same shit art style? Horrendous

You can't tell me this isn't a fetish.
Not good enough until she's trans and in a wheelchair.

edit: He watermarked the clip because of course he did.
Maybe being able to find humour in the darkness of life is a powerful coping mechanism?
compare and contrast: Richard Pryors lifestory, and a twitter rando who can't cope anymore because they had to cancel their doordash because starbucks ran out of oat milk
The sad thing about that Tomb Raider stuff is that there's probably a pretty cool concept for a game somewhere in there. You could make something in the mold of Prey (the Predator movie, not the game), where your indigenous hero has to fight off some psychotic posho aristocrat cunt version of Lara Croft, despite her having superior tech and resources. Just give us a cool underdog story with a character you root for, and in the background you'll be delivering the same message without beating your audience over the head with it.
Instead, everything needs to be soy-ified to the maximum degree, turned into some heavy-handed lecture about colonialism, and made as offputting as possible to the general audience.
the dumb thing is lara was already fighting wasteful, disrespectful, greedy competitor raiders in the very first game
natla appeals to lara's monetary greed, lara says she only plays for sport: https://youtu.be/XHJuFhcRICE?t=67
dumb redneck following in her footsteps trying to kill her: https://youtu.be/XHJuFhcRICE?t=205
pierre dupont leaving his trash behind as lara scoffs: https://youtu.be/XHJuFhcRICE?t=350
it's not exactly anti-imperialist but she was never just stealing from indigenous peoples
in fact natla WAS the indigenous person demanding that raiders get her artifact back so she could rebuild her world
I liked it when you dual wielded pistols to kill a big t rex
Tomb Raider was never about raiding tombs. It was a trans allegory. And if you don't get that, I can't won't explain it.
