isn't this in favor of the caste systems? since they're cultural, and to ban them is a really white thing to do?

(07-03-2023, 03:43 PM)PhoenixDark wrote: The problem with this affirmative action debate is the same problem we're seeing in multiple areas, from culture to art to everything else: a complete refusal to acknowledge non-white people can possibly have their own ideas, motives, or interests outside of a white power structure. The end result is a mental and policy stagnation that really has one victim: black people. And frankly it's time to start examining whether this is deliberate.

If your worldview is that white supremacy is the dominant world ideology then it's easy to dismiss other cultures' long-held norms, views, and lifestyles. I 100% believe white supremacy exists obviously, but it is not the wizard of Oz behind the curtain of every culture that comes to America. The flaws of this mindset get exposed often but I can't think of many more direct than the recent freakout over Muslim Americans not wanting gay books/content in their libraries. Why people expected an Abrahamic religion to be progressive is beyond me. The Koran states that homosexuality should be punished, and Muhammad stated it should be by death. What does that have to do with white supremacy? But when your sole interest is in forming non-white coalitions of voters who do exactly what you want them to do, this becomes a complication right. This isn't about allies or quid pro quo. People have vested self interests that drive their behavior and actions. When you fail to acknowledge this it leads you down intellectually fraught roads, like "we defended you after 911/Iraq so you should support gay rights." Huh? This isn't about Muslims allying with white supremacy, it's about Muslims having religious views that mirror Christian views when it comes to homosexuality. And abortion.

When I look at what's going on with immigrant groups in America I see a clear race for resources. People coming to this country and taking advantage of any opportunity to attain education and businesses. Their political allegiances largely center on who is helping them achieve their goals, and who is impeding their goals. The issue is not that these immigrant groups want to attain whiteness - they want to replace it. And by dismissing their ambitions as an almost slave-like obsession with their oppressor all liberals are doing is insulting their intelligence. Many of these communities aren't even trying to assimilate, beyond education. Many eat at restaurants within their community, almost exclusively shop at stores within their community, and seek out doctors within their community. None of this gels with wanting to be...white.

Here's how it hurts black people. While we remain stagnant and complain about groups not being good allies, those groups keep running the resource race. And when the dust settles and this shit gets to where it's going...we're going to face permanent underclass status while Asians/Hispanics/etc say "I did this on my own, why can't you." They didn't do it on their own obviously, but that's what they will say. There will be no white guilt at play, either. Why would they feel guilty, after all - they aren't white, they aren't the ancestors of slave owners, etc. Point being none of these people are our ally and it's time to act accordingly.

The fixation on white supremacy is a good example of epistemic closure for left-wing ideology and just comes off as unhinged in the wild if you're not already initiated in those politics. Like we're not denying that white supremacy exists, that white nationalists are active, or that they are systematic issues in this country. It's just that not everything certain people don't like is that particular wizard behind the curtain.

I've spent the last decade bouncing around that small part of the US that only stretches from San Diego to Houston and it is extremely obvious what way the demographic winds are blowing. The Hispanic minority will be flexing political muscle and looking out for themselves (just like everyone else) and it just isn't white supremacy at work if that doesn't result in lockstep allegiance to the idea of the intersectional PoC that show up at the polls for left wing politics.

No because the caste system - which is basically a legal construct for discrimination - has no place in this country.

Apparently people are mad at this concept as well but it seems like the most sensible approach to me.

Quote:MSNBC host and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Sunday accused Republicans of using Muslim-Americans to attack transgender Americans: "Decades later, the right-wing is reviving that same playbook (The Southern Strategy), this time with Muslim-Americans and trans people. Hear me out, the GOP is trying to recruit Muslim-Americans, a community that makes up less than two percent of the population, against another tiny marginalized group of Americans, transgender people."

"Just to summarize," Psaki continued. "The right-wingers, the conspiracy theorists, the birthers, they now want us to forget the years they spent fear mongering about Muslims and Islam. Ten years ago, standing against Sharia law was the key GOP litmus test. Now that litmus test seems to be how fervently you oppose transgender people."

I can’t believe the GOP is pitting the followers of the most LGBTQ+ friendly religion against the trans community. Do these cowards have no shame?

I love how one of the worst ESPN writers ever somehow got a writing career as some kind of political pundit despite understanding that topic even less.

Funny how quickly the original argument she's making (GOP pitting Muslims against trans) completely disappears. The actual argument she's making is that the GOP isn't the friend of Muslims which is... No shit? Doesn't change that they found common ground in this cause

She's certainly right that black and Asian organizations supported each other at one point in history. But it's 2023 and Asian people don't owe us anything, nor do we owe them anything. Beyond basic level decency. And I'm not sure "haha you're carrying water for white people" resonates as you struggle to pay your rent as a wack journalist, while said Asians climb the socioeconomic ladder. Like I said earlier this entire argument is based on white guilt applying to Asians. Most of them don't feel bad at all about this. And if you want an example of where this is truly heading, look at California. Dems keep harping on this Asian guy from the SC case being a patsy but Asian Americans have been fighting this fight for over a decade in California. This isn't some white supremist plot, it's a battle over resources.

Hill and others don't want to contemplate this because they view black political power as something you use to bolster other groups or a specific political party, while never asking for anything in return besides "do no harm." The idea of Asian Americans strong arming school boards, university boards, electing Asian candidates who deliver on what they say, etc scares them because the minute that happens for black people all that "hot sauce in the purse" pandering becomes obsolete. Which means the influencers become obsolete.

(And no, this is not a "...which is why we should vote for republicans" argument, at all)

As someone who cycles to work on public roads at least once a week, the cyclist is a cunt and deserved to be twatted by the cancer guy.

People like him make cyclists less safe because they behave like cunts and then other cunts in cars see us as less than human.

Fuck that guy and anyone who supports him.
