Interesting podcast, they touched on nearly all the big topics we're dealing with today and Trump has the right or common sense answers to all those challenges.
Elon is pretty bad as an interviewer though, the 2nd hour is much better than the first as Trump starts to involve him more. Biden's interns can only think about the small potatoes like "ur Credit Card company can't have an AI bot man!" and Kamala knows AI is a 2 letter word, while Trump is talking about expanding the energy supply to meet the demands of AI innovation and beat China in the AI race. This was overall a big W for Trump.

Politics reverting to catty high school attitudes is a little sad. Everybody gave up on trying to be serious people and fell down to Trump’s level. When once “you’re no Jack Kennedy” was seen as disrespectful, now we have a 60-year-old guy playing off the Vance boning furniture thing. Rubio making a remark about Trump’s penis is the go to political play these days. And members of both parties embrace it. I don’t know if there’s going back to boring policy candidates. Eventually it’s going to be Logan Paul vs Mr Beast telling voters to smash that ballot checkbox.

Trump only won 8 years ago because he was running against Hilary and voters said to themselves "fuck this". If Trump's rise was a sign of a new, dumber America, he wouldn't have been crushed in 2020.

America as a country has never been uniformly smart or particularly respectful. But the language changes so it always feel extreme to all of us getting older. Grover Cleveland is dead as fuck, but his campaign is instructive here. Republicans had a chant: "Ma, Ma, where's my Pa?", because Cleveland was a deadbeat dad. From some brief research, it sounds like it was never confirmed, but the chant stuck anyway. Democrats responded with "Gone to the White House, Ha! Ha! Ha!" It sounds quaint, but I see it as nearly equivalent to the whole porn-star-payout thing...not in terms of legality, but in terms of bawdy and tasteless personal attacks. Dems: Trump is paying to fuck pornstars Republicans: Our guy is banging pornstars! I still think all the couchfucking, "weird republican" stuff is boring and not really worth engaging in. I just don't think it's particularly new.

They distributed leaflets calling Andrew Jackson a cannibal who dined on native American flesh. Politicking is as dirty now as it always was, the only difference now is every idiot has access to a printing press.

Looking around and can't find anything.
Has the Harris campaign put out actual policy on the no tax on tips thing?
08-15-2024, 04:00 PM
The Harris campaign is like that Stonetoss comic but the word Hamburgers is replaced by 'Policies?'
08-15-2024, 04:06 PM
It's cynical as fuck, but Harris is playing this smart.
Without her having to say this out loud or get dragged into the details, she is simultaneously coasting on the Biden policies that play well (hey, I was VP!) and avoid blame for the ones that don't (I'm my own person, maybe I would do it differently!). I'd like to see more from her on a policy level too, but I've seen enough to know that someone on her team figured out how to have your cake and eat it too, and the campaign will probably do that as long as they can as a way of running out the clock.

"All employees of the U.S. Secret Service are held to the highest standards," he said. "While there was no impact to the North Carolina event, the specifics of this incident are being examined. Given this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further."
