Anthem topped retail sales charts in the UK during its first week of release, although its total launch week retail sales matched half of those of BioWare's previous game Mass Effect: Andromeda.In Japan, Anthem reached the top of the sales charts with 78,000 copies sold at launch. In North America, according to NPD data tracking, "Anthem represents the second-highest launch month sales ever recorded for a BioWare developed game, trailing only the March 2012 release of Mass Effect 3". Anthem was at the top of PS4 downloaded video games via PlayStation Store by March 2019. SuperData reported that the game had earned over $100 million in digital revenue in February 2019, of which $3.5 million came from in-game purchases.

Anthem failed to meet Electronic Arts' sales expectations. With a target set at 6 million copies to be sold by the end of March, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said Anthem did not reach the sales goal, while EA CFO Blake Jorgensen admitted that more money was expected to come from the game's microtransactions as well. In June 2019, Wilson reiterated how Anthem was not working as planned in keeping players engaged, although he stated that BioWare would continue to support the game.

Just want to say that I agree with every single word you said, JoeBoy101 (and also agree, do stick around ComeAgain, you're a good poster), and it's something I found I was becoming guilty of too. A couple of weeks ago, GameBoy Nostalgia's post made me realise I was targeting Melody Shreds a little too much and I have completely stopped posting about him. He's ultimately weird and harmless.

However, I would make a counter-point: The reason TheBore focusses on TransEra is pretty simple: they have taken over ResetEra.

Kyuuji, Clicky Cal, Volimar, plagiarize and a handful of other vicious voices, have managed to become such dominant loudmouths in the past 3 years that they have reshaped the entire discourse of ResetEra. Just a small group of people have the power to get anyone they dislike dogpiled on and, 99% of the time, banned.

Even now, we have the ridiculousness of one of the best selling games of all time, Hogwarts Legacy, referred to as 'The Wizard Game' by people in their late 30's and 40's for fear of upsetting TransEra.

So it's only natural that the loudest, nastiest voices command the greatest attention here on TheBore. Bullies get noticed.

Edit: Also, regarding the 'KYS' comments here on TheBore, I can't speak for the posters who have said that, but I'm pretty sure it's said out of frustration. A way of saying 'shut up and go away', not meant literally. At least, I hope so.

Yeah, I'm very anti-conspiracy theory in my leanings. As the saying goes, I think, 'Don't attribute to Malice what can be explained by Stupidity'.

People love to build up shadow conspiracy theories to explain their powerlessness, oversell the challenge they face, or to scare people to follow suit. From the Gay Mafia, to Project 2025.

But from "Triumphant return to form" to completely glossing over serious gameplay, writing, graphic style, and pacing issues that are demonstrated by footage, I struggle to come up with a belief that everybody was so wowed over the game organically. Especially when its all the reviewer copies that were heavily cherry-picked.

You still have your past life's memories (so no forgetting that trip to Cannes and no I will not let that go, you RUINED that lunch reader! *shakes fist*), but it isn't a dream, you're not in a coma, it's real.

Not that this means you experience all the stuff we don't see on-screen like possibly growing up, travelling to place, toilet time, what happens after the credits appear etc.

However I want to make this clear because it makes me uncomfortable when I've done similar threads where people asked if they've changed gender cause I'm worrying I'm upsetting fellow trans users but like I've said their, you have NOT changed gender, you still look like you except you're now the age as your character was and your muscle build might be different in the context of the game like if you're a martial artist for example. Your face is you, people call you by your gender and may even call you by your name rather then Link, Kratos or Cloud etc.

How do you initially react? What do you think would happen? What would your long term plans be? Think you'd survive?

I think beta was different. Nobody played the beta because:

Nobody knew about the game or ongoing beta because of poor marketing.
Those who knew thought beta is just for pre-orders.
Those who knew it's free didn't want to invest any time into a premium priced game that they won't buy.

Now: the massive news of the game shutting down was the biggest marketing you can imagine, everyone knows it and wants to try. Most of the people wouldn't stay, but at least there's a chance.
