The game is getting good reviews. Dont know why so many here are pretending it’s a sea of shit reviews with just a few liking it. 

Pronouns bother you THIS much? Gay or transgender people have dealt with straight relationships forever in media and enjoyed or loved it, so hard for me to say anything but “damn that’s pretty cool” seeing them get some shine in this game.

Seeing this thread legit veer off into Stormfront tier shit is a tad disheartening to see after largely being a thread I frequent because of actually funny stuff in the past. Now it’s like angry GAF in 2024 members have taken over.

I really think "pronouns" have taken on a role of shorthand for this entire conversation.

There's this trend of hyper-tuned-to-near-flavorlessness big ass AAA mega videogames. Concord, Starfield, and Veilguard all seem to fit that mold--scratch beneath the pronoun-screeching and you frequently get this sort of damning-with-faint-praise sentiment..."I guess it's okay??? but the writing and world are kinda shit and awkward and the tension is basically nonexistent??? And the gameplay loop gets old really fast???" 

The "woke" shit is a common-denominator and easy as fuck to latch onto, though obviously it isn't the cause. It's something easy to point out as symbolic of a larger point: these dev teams seem like they were hard focused on cruft--checking design boxes, matching some pre-defined marketing presentation, and yeah, the "politics"--rather than starting with an inherently and self-evidently compelling game experience, and bolting on the cruft--whether that's pronouns or fortnite-itized purple graphics or whatever--after the fact.

Like, I think it says a lot that as a non-player and not-much-interested-er of Dragon Age, I heard a LOT about what the game doesn't do before it launched, completely passively. No evil/immoral play through, no party control, no inter-party conflicts etc etc. 

You can see Avowed kinda coming down the same pipeline already.

I like woke shit. I actually give Sony (someone hit me with the pony emote, plz) a lot of credit for releasing a ton of progressive games in a smart way. That they have something like Horizon as one of their big three, or pass the torch of TLoU entirely to a cast of badass women, or just sort of say "oh yeah, here's Returnal, you play as pissed-off Ellen Degeneres" and whaddya know, it's a fucking phenomenal game. THAT is great. I am always happy to see that. They fucking "woke'd" KRATOS of all people...and most people think those games are amazing (me also).

There's a big difference between the above, and seeing some pirate lady doing penance pushups for misgendering after getting tsk-tsk'd by a third party is like...damn, ya'll didn't even try. You had a box to hit, barely tagged it with a fingernail, and said job well done.

Yes, AnnoyedCanadian has been telling people to unlive themselves, which is why I don't like the posts even if I would like it for insanity of the quoted posts, which is what I assumed people meant when talking about posts where people were saying that.

I was at a shitty crustpunk forum once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the admins clearly hate you. So the admin and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."

I’m mainly here to laugh at Nep and Dubs running that forum into the ground. Them coddling adults who have created some warped version of reality for themselves is an integral part of that self destruction. 

Sure, I’ll laugh sometimes at some serious struggles among their user base but it’s the context that contains the humor, them blindly following each other off the deep end while validating each other and wondering why they can’t find happiness and wondering why everyone else doesn’t just follow them into their little pit of despair too. Their endless reinforcing feedback loop of misery which was designed and enforced by those worthless admins is the funny part. Selene is not a perfect ambassador. Neither is Ellie or Abby. They fuck up, they are fucked up, they come into avoidable conflict--sometimes gleefully--they're sometimes remorseful, sometimes unrepentant, sometimes at the same time. That's what makes them great.

Listen, as I've said to boredfrom, it's good that you're pushing back. The last thing this place needs to become is an echo chamber, and people piling on you for your pushback can encourage that. So please stay and keep pushing back when you feel the need. But the stormfront comparison is ridiculous; that scene Uncle posted might be the worst scene I've ever seen in a game.

NOBODY likes being preached a gospel they think is bogus, and that scene is the most ideologically preachy thing I think I've ever seen in a game. Prostrating and doing push-ups because you "misgendered," all the while going off on how the people not doing the same and "just" apologizing are only calling attention to themselves?
