I have members of my family who had to experience living under a brutal dictatorship for many, many years. Yet, they still managed to survive and even thrive. They found pockets of happiness and were able to build meaningful lives. Lives in which they were able to form beautiful bonds and help others around them.

Some of the most transformative art in human history has come out of world-ending events.

There is always goodness in people. I believe, more good than bad. As they say, be kind to people and ruthless to systems.

You have several posters professing that they were either successfully deradicalized or work with children who are exposed to radicalization already. Other posters, instead of considering the insights being offered and possibly folding them into their understanding of the world, have talked over and ignored those offering them instead. Why? I don't know. Personally, since I know much it hurts to be pushed aside and dismissed continually, I try my best to avoid treating others the same way.

Someone shares an example of hateful, online anti-man rhetoric (no, children should not be born in jails and expected to earn their freedom, regardless of their gender). Others then frame it as an irrelevant comment on Letterboxd, a meaningless anecdote, certainly not representative of the viewpoints of any women. Meanwhile, an inflammatory tweet from Mr. Fuentes is used to prove why the majority of men are inherently dangerous and irredeemable (despite earlier evidence to the contrary), as if it had 2 million likes and not 1% of that number.

I'm hearing that women and minorities should not have to regulate our emotions in public spaces, while expecting men to regulate theirs expertly, despite the fact that one cause of the problem we're all facing is that boys are systemically prevented from developing emotional skills as they grow up.

The purpose of this thread was to discuss and find possible solutions, however tenuous, yet half the posters here have entered it to derail it by saying, actually, there are no solutions... even though derailing threads about women is an age-old taboo on Era.

What has gone on in this thread is not progress. As someone who was abused exclusively by women, some of the posts here made me want to die inside.
