We're talking about a bunch of different groups of people here though. I'm talking about Latinos with undocumented relatives who voted for Trump (the primary group identified in the original video that was posted). Another is the democrats (like the guy in the video) who were all in on protecting undocumented migrants before the election who are now all in on snitching on them to "own the Republican voting Latinos"and to "teach them a lesson". Plenty of hypocrites there among those groups. Granted, there's also plenty of innocent victims (those poor bastards about to be caught up in a stupid culture war by a bunch of hypocrites). But that's the problem with culture wars, innocent people get hurt and the culture warriors live to fight another stupid war another stupid day. For the record I don't think Trump should be rounding people up who have lived in the US for years regardless of their status. The same way I don't think Australia should be deporting New Zealand citizens found guilty of committing crimes when they have lived their whole lives here. It's pretty funny to laugh at hypocrites though...

Some, I'm sure. Some I think are just that arrogant that they don't think it's THEIR relatives that will be rounded up. Time will tell. Personally I think it's only a matter of time before we get the following tweet sequence: Quote:"Please help. My father is being deported. He's lived here for 20 years." I'm happy to be wrong about this, but you'd be brave to bet against it.

Mayoral advisor who led the charge against ShotSpotter is jailed on outstanding warrant

A 2021 Naperville Sun story reported that Goodwin was arrested that year for driving on a suspended license.TLDR: Local Alderman and community like the ShotSpotter (a tech that triangulates the location of a gunshots). A SJW public safety advisor wants to defund the police and got rid of the shot spotter. Public safety advisor gets arrested for a warrant. Lol Quote:Ald. David Moore (17th) posted a picture of Goodwin with a screenshot of her LinkedIn bio Wednesday afternoon. Moore led the City Council’s efforts to keep ShotSpotter technology active in the city, but Johnson canceled the program on September 22 anyway, ignoring pleas from aldermen, the police superintendent, and ordinary Chicagoans. Alyxandra Goodwin and Ald. David Moore How did she get arrested for the warrant? She/they/he/it (hard to tell because Alyxandra looks exactly like you'd expect someone who wants to defund the police would look like) got popped for "driving with a suspended license" warrant because she was pulled over for driving on expired tags. https://cwbchicago.com/2024/11/103000-a-year-mayoral-advisors-plates-expired-in-2022-because-her-car-wont-pass-an-emissions-test.html Quote:CHICAGO — Mayor Brandon Johnson’s $103,488-a-year public safety advisor has been driving on expired plates for two years because her “check engine” light keeps coming on and she can’t pass an emissions test. Quote:The officers allowed her to make phone calls to arrange for someone to take care of her children while Goodwin got everything straightened out. Makes over 100 grand a year and can't even get their fucking check engine light problem fixed. A perfect example why nobody wants these kind of people in charge. How can they get thigs done for us when they can't get things done for themselves? The bodycam is boring but I posted it if you want to see. The ACAB chick seems to get along with cops and no real drama. Resetera would be disapointed.

Of course YouTube started recommending people reacting to watching tropic thunder. I was curious to see what younger people thought so I checked out some of those videos. Couple of the vids were entertaining because of how uncomfortable it made some of the viewers. 😂 Not surprisingly some of the Gen z people were laughing their ass off. Maybe there's hope for younger people after all.

That's perhaps the part that surprises me the most. Stuff like expired tags, suspended license etc. can become a real vicious cycle for people who are already poor and have no other way to get to work. So they keep breaking the law to make what little money they can get only to get fined, arrested etc. again. When this happens to someone who makes a 100k per year though they're just an idiot and an asshole.

Its why fines for prostitution have always been counter productive, because they just hook more to pay them off (the 'forced into it through desperation or circumstance' street hooker types, not the dilettante 'this will really piss off daddy' types)

The Trump Effect just keeps rolling
https://popculture.com/tv-shows/news/cnn-to-fire-on-air-talents-as-part-of-major-layoffs-report-claims/ Quote:Just after news broke of Chris Wallace ditching CNN, the network is now slated to cut “hundreds of jobs,” according to a new report from Puck News’ Dylan Byers. The outlet, which is a frequent news-breaker when it comes to TV news shakeups, reports that CNN’s CEO Mark Thompson will lay off tons of employees to cut costs and streamline CNN for digital platforms. Some on-camera anchors and talents are reportedly slated to be fired as part of these cuts.

I thought trump was big business for mainstream media? they were all supposedly happy that he won because it would keep the news cycle and the drama going?

Hey progressives, is this that "fuck around and find out" thing you keep talking about?

I hate "book ban" discourse
there are a multitude of valid reasons that specific books might not be offered in specific contexts, and it takes a lot to approach the level of nazi book burning all providers of books curate what is offered, because they have limited space is choosing not to stock a random book technically "banning" it? can no one go fucking buy it on amazon if they want to read it?

More interesting to me would be data on book censorship. Outright bans are one thing, and probably very limited, but I'd be interested in data on self-censorship by publishers.
